Where to go from Toulon

Hi. We're going on a cruise that calls at Toulon in august on a Sunday. As we've already been to Toulon, we were wondering about going somewhere else. Can anyone tell me what places you can get to from Toulon without doing a tour? Also, what's the best way to do it? Many thanks for all your help.

You can probably do any place in Provence. Think Aix, Arles, Avignon, etc.

There are places to visit from Toulon e g Aix en Provence etc but usually you dock in Seyne sur Mer and have to get into Toulon first and then walk to the train station.When we were there a few years ago we walked into the centre of La Seyne sur mer(about 10 mins walk) and caught a bus to Bandol which is a lovely seaside resort. The buses weren t that frequent though but that could be because it was October(Hopefully there will be more in August. You are probably best googling buses from Toulon/La Seyne to Bandol (or wherever you want to go and you should be able to see the latest timetable. If you actually dock in Toulon centre you are probably best catching a train somewhere.:)

When we were in Toulon a few years ago, we rented a car (Sixt) and drove to St Maximin la Sainte Baume. Its'a charming little town where, rumor has it, Mary Magdalene lived (and died). It was fascinating.
