Free Beaches Nassau

Junkanoo seems a little more crowded than I'd prefer. We aren't partiers, we're nature lovers.

Far West Cable Beach, the free entrance just west of Melia is a little out of the way for us. We'd prefer easy walking distance.

We'll be eating a late breakfast, taking a Jitney to astrada gardens, stopping at fish fry for lunch, and want just a quiet simple beach to spend a few hours. Do not need drinks/snacks/amenities.

Any info on Saunders beach? Back in 2012 it was listed as a dangerous construction zone, but I have seen more positive reviews lately on other sites.

Saunders beach is my fave in Nassau. It is too far to walk from port, so take the $1.25 jitney there. It is very quiet and only a few locals there. I felt safe, but keep an eye on your things since it will be less crowded. They had very clean restrooms, some benches to sit on and there was a KFC across the street I believe. There were no vendors, no chair rentals, etc.

The water is a little rocky, so not the best for swimming unless you go far out. I enjoyed exploring the little sea critters hiding among the rocks. The sand is pretty, clean and white.

It is a hidden gem in Nassau.

When were you there? I heard of construction on the beach and am wondering if that's completed.
