Drinks in the dining room

Hi everyone

Just a quick question. In the dining room [britannia], at lunch and dinner, is wine the only drink available? or can we ask the waiter for a drink from the bar drinks menu, eg gin and tonic, or even a beer, to have with our meal?

I believe they will get you any drink you want however, in my experience, it can take some time for the sommelier to get to your table.

Because of this we always take a drink in with us.

(I enjoy a pint in the Golden Lion with lunch, or iced water with dinner (if I don't doesn't care for wine that night), and maybe a spirit-based drink, or something after dinner (eg scotch or cognac etc). I have seen a few passengers take a half-consumed glass of wine from the Chart Room into the Britannia Restaurant, and can see nothing wrong with that. Some are happy to make one glass of wine last a while, and not drink too much, why not. Others have a cocktail or three in the bar and then wine with dinner).

One of our table companions ordered cider and didn't have to wait too long for it.

On the first night, I ask the wine steward to have my Manhattan on the table every night. Saves everyone a lot of time.

I tend to drink mainly beer at dinner. A couple of cruises ago the sommelier would have a bottle of Grolsh in an ice bucket waiting for me !

And on our first cruise I drank a lot of Boddingtons. As I finished one the sommelier would arrive with another.
