Amsterdam: open boat canal tours

Recommended Posts

In Amsterdam, has anyone had experience with the small open boat canal tours featured in the link below?

I realize the tour availability is less than the large standard canal tours that leave frequently, first come first serve, etc. Also, it is dependent on nice weather. However, if it's a beautiful day, I'm thinking I would rather be in the open air.

In a sloop you will have a MUCH better view around, less crowded, some sail the smaller canals the larger boats can't get to. And (hearing) a guide will be much more pleasant and efficient.

There's more motion too and indeed the weather has to be dry to fully enjoy the smaller sloop.

The open air seats at the aft of the larger canal boats tend to fill very very quickly on boarding, as the roof blocks some of the view upwards to the houses along the canals.

I would prefer the "sloep".

12 of us on our roll call are booked on this captained historic canal boat, the Welmoed:

https://www.rederijdejordaan.amsterdam/en/over-rederij-de-jordaan/

If you have a group or can organize one this would be a nice option!

We will have appetizers included in the price of 23E per person for a 90 minute cruise and beverages are available for purchase. We depart from Eglantiersgracht and disembark close to the restaurant where many more from our very active roll call will be enjoying a rice table dinner.

You might also look into booking a self-driven boat from a place such as this: http://www.rentalboatsinamsterdam.com/boats/.
