Train from Whittier

Anyone done the Princess train from Whittier direct to the Denali Princess lodge?

If so can you give details of journey and train, eg are the carriages double decked with view domes on upper and dining car below, what luggage do Princess allow and what essentials do you need. Finally are the views worth the 9/10 hour journey.

The first two hours from Whittier, is your most scenic. I find the Anchorage Denali Park section the least scenic compared to the entire line sometimes boring :) . Seats on the Princess cars are assigned - table style, 2 people riding backward, 4 to a table. Only a small carryon is taken with you, needing to fit under your seat. The cars offer excellent viewing and Princess has great commentary. A big negative in my opinion is you bypass Anchorage. A very worthwhile city to at least have a look at. :)
