Getting to the Aquarium/Zoo question

How long does it take and cost to get from the Dockyard to the zoo if we take only the bus or the ferry and then the bus? I'm guessing the bus will take more time but cost 1/2 the price b/c we only need to board once. Thanks.

You can't board only one bus, because there is no direct bus service from Dockyard to BAMZ. You'd have to take one bus to Hamilton (#7 or 8) (about an hour) and then transfer to another bus (#10 or 11) to get to BAMZ (about 20 minutes, plus any waiting time for the change of buses).

Ferry to Hamilton is 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minute walk to the bus terminal, followed by a 20 minute bus ride to BAMZ...50 minutes travel time versus 80 minutes by bus only.

Cost depends on how you're paying. If you're going to buy transportation passes because you're making other trips while in Bermuda then there's no difference in cost of ferry/bus versus bus/bus . If you just want to pay for transportation for this trip alone, then ferry/bus will be $8 per person in each direction (2 tokens). If you're doing bus/bus, then you can go for $4 in each direction (one token) as long as you ask the first bus driver for a transfer, which will allow you to travel the second bus at no additional charge.

We are on the Dawn sailing Aug 22. We dock on Sunday 24th. The ship runs an excursion to the aquarium/zoo and crystal Caves on Sunday. We want to visit these two attractions. The excursion calls for approximately four hours. I wonder how much time is allotted for each? Also, the excursion ends in Hamilton, at about 4 pm. How do we get back to the ship? I thought buses wouldn't be running then. Do the ferries run on Sunday afternoon?

Will anything be open in Hamilton?

Thank you

I can't tell you how much time would be allotted to each because we don't take ship's excursions in Bermuda.

Best way back to the ship from Hamilton is by ferry. Here's the schedule:

The last three ferries back are at 4, 5 and 6 pm.

They'll be some things open in Hamilton...mostly restaurants and the like, and a few stores perhaps, but a not a lot.
