Food Items in the Caribbean

I am travelling in March to the Caribbean for the first time. We are departing out of San Juan with stops in St. Croix, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Martinique, and Barbados.

For those of you who have had the pleasure to travel to any of these places. Are there any food items that are must haves? I am thinking about prepackaged items like a hot sauce that you typically will only be able to source locally. Not a restaurant meal.

Can you share what the item is and possibly where you locate it?

All of those stops have great hot sauces. Be sure to bring back a sample bottle from all of them. In the port area St Maarten towards the street there is a vendor that sells spices and hot sauces. She usually has samples out too.

If you happen by a grocery store check them out too.

We used to bring back small bottles of hot sauce.

Items are cheaper in grocery stores than in souvenier shops. But it is always best to know what you are really getting.

Marigot on the French side of St Maarten has wonderful French pastries available. Our favorite is Sarafina's.

We like to stock up on unique grilling spices and other items we see in the States. The Guavaberry Liqueur is a very unique item too.
