We have the option of taking a catamaran to view the piton and then stopping at pigeon island for two hours or taking a larger boat and snorkeling beneath the pitons...which would you prefer to do and why? We are not big snokeling fans, but think the beach beneath the pitons might be nicer than pigeon island...need some advice for our first time in St. Lucia....thanks.

I have been to the beach between the Pitons many times. Great snorkeling at one side of the jetty in the marine park area and lovely beach on the other side.

Never been to Pigeon point but hoping to at New Year. We are between Pigeon Point beach and Choc beach.

Your first time to St Lucia - PITONS all the way. They are the iconic symbol of St Lucia, stunning views of the coastline, beautiful beach with great snorkeling, and a wonderful sail along the way.....Pitons, hands down.

Enjoy your trip.

If those are your two choices, Pigeon Point, by far. Choc is a nice enough beach, but has no facilities, ie chairs or umbrellas, beach bars, etc. It can also be murky due to a river that empties right next to it.

Pigeon Point is a national park, with hiking, beach, restaurant and bar, grassy park and ruins to explore. Also, chairs and umbrellas, etc for rent, along with restrooms! Much more beautiful environment, along with the history of the island and pirates and battles between French and English for the island.....

Enjoy your visit.

They are at opposite ends of the island so really one or the other or you will be so rushed you won't enjoy either.

Where the snorkeling is at Jalousie beach there are a few loungers free of charge but the shade is trees and limited. The other side if the jetty is the sandy beach with sun beds but these belong to a very expensive hotel. They may hire them out but not sure as we spend all of our time there snorkeling.

Pigeon Island/Point and Jalousie Beach and The Pitons are at opposite ends of the island, it is an either/or situation, not both.

For your first time to the island, sail to the Piton, by far. Iconic landscapes, beautiful beach, snorkeling, etc. Yes, there are free loungers the hotel provides for day guests, along with palapas for shade, and restrooms with shower. You can rent the hotel loungers if you like, along with an array of water sports like kayaks, etc. You can also visit the hotel beach bar and restaurant if you like....

The boat ride includes a lots also such as Lady Slipper rock arch, Marigot Bay, Bat cave, etc. Plus the joy of a sail!

Enjoy your visit, whatever you decide to do...

Thank you so much for your advice....we are going to snorkel beneath the pitons and hope for some shade on the beach lol....I'm hoping we can rent lounger etc but im sure we will spend most of the time in the water

There are lots of the free loungers and several palapas along with the trees, I'm sure you'll have some shade. You can check out the resort itself too, it's called Sugar Beach. You can see the menu at the beach bar for food, and they have a full bar with all the regular drinks along with some specialty cocktails. The beach bar and restaurant is open to the public.

Enjoy your visit.
