Brooklyn to Cape Liberty

Good possibility we will spend the night before our cruise visiting friends in Brooklyn. Trying to narrow down our transportation options. I assume taxi, shuttle and uber would be available. Tried doing uber estimate and got several different prices. While price would obviously come into play it will not necessarily be the deciding factor. Looking for any and all help you can provide. Thanks.

Basic question - how many of you & # of luggage ? Brooklyn - whereabouts as it's a relatively large and yellow taxi will likely be nearly impossible to find (there are green taxi, metered but they tend to be local & might get all of you lost going to CL). Depending on routing - there are possible toll charges and you might also be paying for the services' toll on the return trip to NY (assumed to be empty w/o riders).

Uber/Lyft are licensed & properly insured to serve the NYC market but it is NOT once you are NJ, thus - not recommended. Not sure what "shuttle" services you are referring to ... you do NOT want to book something like Super Shuttles (Blue Vans, popular out in California for airports ... avoid them)

Your best option would be to consider using one of the 2 major citywide car services (also licensed/insured & operating in the metro NY area, including NJ) with competitive fares & well received by CC'ers here. We use one of them on a regular basis for cruising & airports - each has a fleet of several hundred assorted vehicles & drivers 24/7/365. You can go online & price out the fare quotes & book it, etc. by putting your address/info/date & time, etc. in. With an approximate address (NW Brooklyn/closest to Midtown East or SE Brooklyn/near JFK Airport can make a big difference in base fares, as much as $20 or $30 by distance & "best/fastest/shortest" routing options) - looking at a very, very rough fare of $75 to $125 for base fare, tolls & tips of 20% (our typical formula). Google Map can also calculate the time & distance to show the options for time/day of week - not knowing your cross streets or starting point ... sorry, can't narrow it down to anywhere close to the ballparks :D

No taxi, uber, or shuttle. Book a car service like Dial7 or Carmellimo - look for coupons online.

Going from NY to NJ is tricky because the livery rules change when you cross state lines. You want to arrange a fixed price trip with a car service company whose driver can find you in Brooklyn and probably actually knows where Cape Liberty is. Toll will be a minimum of $15 - possibly higher if you use the tunnel to go from Brooklyn to Manhattan. 18-20% tip on the base price.

Carol is 100% correct.

Any meter taxi be it Yellow or Green a trip out side NYC per NYC Taxi & Limo Commission "The fare will be a set-rate, pre-determined between the passenger and the driver that must be paid at the end of the trip."

Exceptions are Newark Airport, Westchester and Nassau Counties.

Newark Airport is Meter Code 1 (normal rate) plus surcharge of $17.50 plus toll going to and returning from the airport.

Westchester and Nassau Counties are meter code 1 until NYC border then rate code 4.

I too say Dial 7 or Carmellimo .
