We are cruising out of LA in april 2016 on Carnival Miracle. I have been searching the boards for hours. We have always cruise out of Florida. Can anyone give me suggestions for a hotel for 2 days before cruise. Thank you in advance

First, how do you want to spend your time here?

Most of the tourist sights in LA are about 35 miles from Long Beach--where Carnival docks...

So...if you don't want to do the typical LA sightseeing and just want to relax, stay in Long Beach at one of these hotels:

A list:

Hyatt Regency

Hyatt at the Pike

Renaissance

Westin

B list:

Hilton

Maya Doubletree

Residence Inn Downtown

Don't stray from that list...

If you're sightseeing, consider Santa Monica or Hollywood/Universal area...

I'll add the Queen Mary. It's next door to the Carnival dome.

Many say don't stay here because it's old and the walls are thin. Others appreciate antiques.

Long Beach has a free Passport bus. The Maya, Queen Mary, Hyatt at the Pike are all on it's route.

Check out the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Why I don't put the Queen Mary on my list:

I stayed there once...for three nights...

The room was small, dark and smelled funny...

All night, I kept feeling like I was rolling off the bed.

It is interesting, historical, allegedly haunted...

But it is not, in any way, shape or form, a first class hotel.

The four hotels on my "A list" are very nice, modern hotels...with all of the amenities...and, except for proximity to the pier, in much better locations--close to restaurants, shopping, etc.

Visit the Queen Mary for a tour...but stay at a nicer hotel...

Also: putting on my picky hat, but we local Angelenos don't call Los Angeles LAX. That's the international airport. If Carnival (or other cruise lines) is using it as a designation, it's a bit misleading. Carnival uses the Port of Long Beach which is some 25-plus miles (according to Google maps) away. And isn't even the closest airport cruise passengers can use (depending on desired airline).

Los Angeles is a city that's pretty widespread. And is part of the County of Los Angeles (Long Beach is another city in LA County).

As Steve suggested, decide if you want to get in some sightseeing the day before your cruise and then what do you want to see. Long Beach has a lot of attractions such as the Queen Mary and the excellent Aquarium of the Pacific, but many visitors to our area want to go check out Hollywood, Farmers Market and some other places. Easier if you rent a car or book a city tour.
