If the currency onboard is in Euros, then, yes, the machines will take €.

You don't need cash - you can charge it to your onboard account.

Also, when you register your cruisecard in one of the machines (which you have to do to charge your account) leave your card in the machines you're playing as you gain points per play - 1200 points gets you a 30% discount voucher off a future cruise. (You have to book within 2 months and sail within 9 months of receipt of the discount voucher). Every 500 points can be converted into €5/$5 free play without affecting the eligibility to receive the discount voucher. In other words, you'll get €10/$10 free play plus the 30% discount for the 1200 points.

There is no fee for charging to your account. In fact, it's a handy way of getting cash!

On Meraviglia, I reached 1200 AND was up €100 at the time! ;p The 30% got me over €4000 off our March 2018 cruise plus €75 which can be redeemed as cash (not OBC!!) at the cashier's desk in the casino on my next cruise - it doesn't have to be the cruise that you use the discount for. I'm bringing the voucher on Magnifica next Monday to redeem the €75 (though it'll probably be gifted back to them LOL).
