Formal wear on Holland America Alaska cruises

I will be on an Inside Passage Holland America cruise in July.

I am hoping that a 'poster' can be more specific on what the majority of cruisers wear on Alaskan trips.

Formal Wear: Do the men need jacket and ties? Do women wear dresses?

Other nights: In the main dining room, are jeans appropriate or just pants/shirt?

The answers are, you will see, yes, most wear suits/ties or tuxes, and nice jeans are allowed on other nights.

We were on the Zandaam in Alaska in September and there were only about 10 men wearing a tux ( including my husband) he did get many compliments from all the ladies as he had made the effort. This cruise was the least dressy one we had been on out of the 10 cruises we have been on. Shame really as we love dressing up, having said that, you will never feel overdressed on any cruise, just enjoy, Alaska is wonderful.

I can't speak for HAL in Alaska, but on Princess in Alaska last summer, the majority of passengers did wear tuxes/suits, and cocktail dresses/gowns, for the two formal nights. I don't recall seeing jeans in the main dining room any evening.

Most of the men were just wearing sport jackets and ties, not too many suits and, as mentioned, very few tuxes.

I wear a jacket and tie. Most men are varried from tux's, to suit, to jacket and tie, to nice shirt and pants (no tie or jacket). The dress code on most cruise lines seems to be more and more relaxed as the years go on.
