Idaho-Rancher Posted May 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Just looking for tips or knowledge for our first cruise on the Golden Princess We are going with DS,DB-inlaw (i think this is how to address) we will be spending some time together but have different excursions planned at a few ports. The family has been helpful, just looking for some recommendations from seasoned cruiser's. We will leave San Francisco in July for 11 day cruise. paul929207 Posted May 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2015 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You are wise to plan some time apart. The groups should not be required to do what one person wants.

Cruisin' Chick Posted May 10, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2015 Don't forget to go on the Princess website and read the cruise answer book (the FAQs). Plenty of info. And also find the section on the Golden -- you'll find deck plans as well as the different features. Our last two cruises were on the Golden to Hawaii. There's a place midships on the Plaza deck that's called the Piazza. Right there is the International Cafe, which is not enclosed by a set of display cases of food. And it's open 24/7. Just go up and tell the counterperson what you want (breakfast food in the morning, sandwiches, soups, etc. mid-morning, desserts, etc.) and you'll get the item on a plate. No charge. You can also buy a specialty coffee at the next counter. If you find a table (the area there can get popular as there's often entertainment going on from string quartets to acrobats) you can eat there, or you can take the food just about everywhere on the ship. I've taken snacks to trivia matches in the Explorers Lounge or up to our cabin to enjoy while we watch a movie. On the pool deck (Lido), there's a pizzeria and a grill that's open most of the day. It's by the uncovered pool where the Movies Under the Stars screen is. At night, popcorn is popped by the little ice cream stand. There's blankets too, but not sure how the weather will be for watching the movie (our Alaskan cruise was in mid-August, and started off warm, but it got rainy and cool for the rest of the week). Another pool is under a retractable roof, so if you want to swim despite the weather, you can. The Horizon Court buffet is also on that deck.
