cruiselovers20 Posted September 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2014 we are arriving in Naples in mid October on a Princess cruise. We would like to visit the "veiled christ statue". Can you provide us any suggestions how to best reach this destination on our own from the Naples port. We appreciate any comments/suggestions. Thanks! euro cruiser Posted September 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Capella San Severo, where you'll find Sanmartino's "Veiled Christ" is located in the Spaccanapoli area, just one block behind Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and just a few blocks from Piazza del Gesu Nuovo. On foot this is just under a mile from the cruise port, although it is slightly uphill. The closest you can get by bus is along Via Monteoliveto, which is almost not worth it; by the time you walk to the stop to get the bus (Medina) you're only a couple of bus stops from where you'd need to get off. If you don't want to walk a taxi is your best bet. The museum's web site is here: http://www.museosansevero.it/en/ Edited to add: Come to think of it, there is a bus option. If you think you'd use the HOHO bus in Naples, they do have a stop in Piazza del Gesu Nuovo. Edited September 17, 2014 by euro cruiser
KirkNC Posted September 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2014 We have seen it twice, it is fantastic. I wish they would allow pictures as it is the best sculpture we have ever seen. We have always walked, as EC says it is slightly uphill. You could catch a taxi to the Archeological Museum and than walk to San Severo and than back to the ship. euro cruiser Posted September 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Kirk, it's not the same as taking your own photo, but you can save a copy of the professional shots on the museum's web site (link above).
