Invergordon

We shall be arriving Invergordon via a Cruise come September this year. Other than joining one of the full-day tours, are there any towns nearby where we can spend a good day there walking around? Any experience to share will be greatly appreciated!!

The nearest town of any size is Inverness. You could certainly spend a day there. Get there by bus, train or taxi.

As marylizcat said, Inverness is a possibility. You can get there by bus, and check out the times on this website. The bus stop is a short walk - around 200 yards - from the entrance to the port. Trains also run between Invergordon and Inverness although the service is less frequent. http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/default.aspx.

Invergordon is a small town so the railways station isn't far either but a bit further than the bus stop

IMO, though, it will be a missed opportunity if you just go into Inverness. The scenery around is pretty and a visit to Loch Ness or Dunrobin Castle is well worth doing

Thank you so much for your advice and information. Tartanexile81, we actually had done Loch Ness and Castles in our previous cruises so am planning to take it leisurely this time round :). Inverness indeed looks like a good option, thank you. Btw, I noted there are several Bus stops in Invergordon. Which stop should I be looking at given we probably shall be boarding at the one closest to the Cruise terminal? Thank you again in advance for your advice!
