New Orleans FQ Hotel Advice

Okay, I am mis-using the boards, because I'm going to New Orleans, but not on a cruise.

I'll probably be going to New Orleans for four days the first time in late October. Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels in the French Quarter, also any other recommendations for sight-seeing, tours, restaurants, etc.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am from New Orleans. I would recommend Harrah's Casino Hotel. The hotel is is across the street from the casino. it is a beautiful hotel. You must go to Cafe Du Monde for beighnets and coffee. You can take a carridge ride thru the French Quarter. There are paddlewheelers that take you on cruises up and down the river. The Aquarium is located downtown and is a must see. If you have anymore questions please ask.

We went to NO last October for the 1st time. I sure wish I was going back, it is a really fun town. We bought a streetcar pass for 5.00 pp per day and was well worth it because we stayed at the Marriott Convention Ctr hotel, which was very nice. I loved, loved the FQ and would recommend staying there if possible. We did fine using the streetcar which is a great deal to get around NO. Sorry, I can't really recommend a hotel there, but had to chime in to say I hope you have a wonderful time, we sure did and would love to go back!!

Have fun!

I was just in New Orleans for a business trip and I stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans on St. Charles. It was a great location, I was about a block from Bourbon Street and a few blocks (easy walk) to Jackson Square.

If you stay at the Omni there are several wonderful restaurants a few blocks away. Emeril Lagasesse (sp?) has a fairly new place called NOLA that is about a block away. The food was OUTSTANDING and medium-high entree prices (my entree, pork loin, was $26). Also a block or so away is Brennan's (home of the original banannas foster) which is more expensive but still very good.

If you have time (and a car) I would recommend driving up the river to see a few plantations. We stopped at Oak Alley and Laura, and the contrasts between two working plantations were facinating.
