Soda Packages - Taxes???

I remember reading years ago, that you should wait to buy the soda packages until the ship sails - so you don't pay the sales tax at port? Is this true?

In my experience...they will not add the tax for the soda or wine package. They'll just process the charge after the ship has sailed.

I paid the tax when I bought the soda package onboard before we sailed in Ft. Lauderdale. Now I just buy it online before we sail.

How much is a soda card on Royal Caribbean? The last time we bought one was years ago and I can't remember how much it was. Wondering if it will be worth it.

This is what I paid for a 9 night cruise in March.

Royal Refreshment Package

1 Adult Royal Refreshment Package 74.68 about 7.50/day

1 Child Royal Refreshment Package 51.70 about 5.50/day

$6.50 per day for 18 and over. $4.50 per day for under 18. Add 15% for gratuity.

A single can of soda would cost $2.88 including gratuity.

The price is always the same no matter when you purchase.

Some people are confused and think the 15% gratuity is a tax.

It is sort of funny how people spend thousand of $$$ on the trip, but worry about $5-$7 on some tax..

On the Oasis we purchased ours when we first got on the ship. Only paid the gratuity no tax. We have never paid a tax.
