younghoneymooners17 Posted February 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Would this be a good port to go out on your own and find a beach? We would love to lay in the sun, snorkel, drink, and relax here because it will be the last port of our honeymoon. Any recommendations? Even if it's not a beach day, what is good to do in Costa Maya? Thank you for any advice!
lifes-a-beach Posted February 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Go out the gate, get in a cab and head to the Malecon. All beach all the time. Keep reading the Costa Maya threads for information about the various spots along the Malecon. Since you asked for recommendations, your checklist can all be done at Blue Key. Rare crewsweeper Posted February 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Have to agree with lifes-a-beach on Blue Kay, hitting all your checkpoints. Snorkeling isn't that good anywhere along the malecon or south beaches, but Blue Kay, with less frequent boat traffic churning up the water, is better than other beach clubs along the malecon. Upside is that by taking a taxi versus the tram, you'll get direct entry to Blue Kay. Downside is the loungers are wooden slants so bring towels or such to cushion your backside. Plus if for what ever reason, when you get to Blue Kay, and it's not your type of sun and fun spot, you can easily walk down the malecon to any other spot and stop there. Be forewarned that going past any of the beach clubs you will be harangued by lounge chair hawkers trying to get you to their club. Look at the building and signs on the front of the buildings not the signs on the beach, to know where you really are. These guys will try to trick you into thinking you are at a different place. crusin22 Posted March 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2017 What about Mahahaul? That's where we went in February 2013. Going Easter week was wondering?
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2017 Definitely head to Blue Kay. It has everything you are looking for. We loved it there. Check out my review in my signature line for tons of pictures of the place and what snorkeling is like there. :)
