Tahitianbigkahuna Posted March 18, 2017 Author #21 Share Posted March 18, 2017 Nobody took a shot at answering the question .... This is a picture of the famous Bali Hai on Moorea. About 15 years ago the place was sold so the Pearl organization so they could build a new resort. The huts were not torn down but were dismantled and given to families who worked at the Bali Hai or had a connection with the Bali Hai Boys. If you go around the island of Moorea you will keep seeing huts that look alike but are in different areas. The Bali Hai Boys had the place built over 55 years ago. The 'Boys' originally from Southern California introduced the world to OWB's. The 'barge' on the right was the famous "Liki Tiki" phonetically "leaky Tiki". The Leaky Tiki was used for evening parties and during the day excursions in the lagoon. There were 3 Leaky Tiki's one on Moorea, Raiatea and Huahine as each island had a property built by the Bali Hai Boys. Tahitianbigkahuna Posted April 1, 2017 Author #25 Share Posted April 1, 2017 Was over sorting vanilla beans yesterday and I thought it would be a good idea to give you a few pointers on what to look for when your buying vanilla beans during your trip to French Polynesia. Your looking for beans that have a shine to them as that tells you the oils are plentiful. Sometimes you will see a bean with no shine and it's shriveled up. This is a good indicator that the bean was picked green, don't buy it. Ideally you want a shine, somewhat flexible and if your lucky the bean will have a small burst in one of the seams, not all the way open but never less a split in the seam, this is probably a bean picked when it was fully ripe, a good one to buy. Also if the beans have mold on them don't buy it. These beans are good, not perfect but pretty good .... color may be different from different regions, these beans shown are from Madagascar, usually the beans I bought in FP seem to be a bit darker.
