cstone Posted October 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Hi there: It's our first time cruising and we are on a budget. Does anyone know a private tour company or person who does a dog sledding tour in Juneau that would be good and more economical than the tour Celebrity offers? Thanks, Cynthia Stone
mapleleaves Posted October 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Vendors are listed in the city web site: http://www.traveljuneau.com/ Also, have a look at this years trip reports ( STICKY above). On page 3, I posted a report from 'petlover' who did a heli dog sled trip in Juneau and she included a few photos of the experience.
Budget Queen Posted October 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Hi there: It's our first time cruising and we are on a budget. Does anyone know a private tour company or person who does a dog sledding tour in Juneau that would be good and more economical than the tour Celebrity offers? Thanks, Cynthia Stone Are you talking about a dog sledding tour on snow, and fly in? Contact each of the three vendors who offer this and compare prices. ERA, TEMSCO and Coastal. If you are referring to a nonflight cart ride, it should be listed on the above site, do not expect big savings if they aren't ship contacted and direct you to book with the ship. If you are touring mainlandS Alaska independently, the bargain, cart ride is in Wasella at the Sled Dog Headquarters with Reddington dogs. It's quick but cheap. :) Seward had the very well run Seavey's Sled dog kennel, and Carcross has Caribou Crossing, with sled dog rides available, gotten to with a self drive to the Yukon from Skagway, or purchasing an included Caribou Crossing stop on a tour. laughing husky Posted October 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2014 That said, there are no "private" tours in those areas. They are all set up for tourists. Another tour not mentioned, which is one of the best is Vern Halter, dream a Dream dog farm. He is also a truly responsible kennel owner. He is located in Willow. AK. about 60 miles north of Anchorage. Also Rick Casillo does a tour on the Knik glacier about 30 minutes north of Anchorage, which is connected with the Knik River Lodge.
