Canada/New England Land Tour & Cruise, Sept. 27 – Oct 12, 2016

Cruise line: Princess, Maple Leaf Tour (5 days land) prior to cruise

Ship: Caribbean Princess, room Riviera 709 (deck 14)

Air: Air Canada going to Toronto, Delta from LaGuardia to Atlanta, both EzAire by Princess (about $300 per person round trip)

Money: $500 Canadian (spent all of it), $1000 US (spent about $800)

 

Sunday, Oct. 2 Montreal to Quebec City (ship)

Work 5:30 am; 8 am left hotel, 2 stops before Quebec City; arrived about noon.

On ship 1 pm; lunch at Horizon Court.

Walked around Quebec City; took funicular up and down.

Enjoyed boardwalk in front of hotel Chateau Frontenac; ate ice cream

 

7 pm folkloric show, good

Did laundry $3 each wash & dry

 

Weather good, sunny, little wind

 

Monday, Oct. 3 Quebec City

5:30 am wake up; breakfast in Horizon Court

8:00 am Princess tour “Grand Exploration of Quebec & Lunch”

Guide was Real

Weather sunny, very windy, cool (felt cold)

Walked around streets like yesterday; most stores closed because early.

City tour then to Ile d’Orleans

Saw beautiful church of St. Anne de Beaupre

French lunch of appetizer, soup, chicken or salmon, vegetables, blueberry mousse; okay but not superb

Stopped for Montmorency Falls where Bill went and took pictures.

Returned to ship at 4 pm.

Lifeboat drill at 4:30 pm.

 

Tuesday, Oct. 4 At Sea

Weather: sunny, cool

Formal night in dining room

8:30 pm Broadway show; good

 

Wednesday, Oct. 5 Corner Brook, Newfoundland

9 am Princess tour “Captain Cook Monument & Old Man in the Mountain”

Visited Old Man in the Mountain, Heritage Tree, a park, Captain Cook Monument atop mountain with lovely view.

Nice color to trees; made several stops.

Weather: nice, clear, about 70 degrees

Comedian after supper okay.

 

Break for private tours

 

Monday, Oct. 10 Boston, Massachusetts

Weather: cool & windy

Princess tour “Harvard, Lexington, Concord & Boston Highlights”

Toured Boston a little, Cambridge, went into Harvard Yard

Stopped at Lexington Green for photo shots

Concord for Old North Bridge, longer stop (first bathroom stop)

Back to Boston for lunch at Quincy Market, corned beef sandwich, Polish Keilbasa, fries, onion rings & 2 diet Pepsi for $40; No table, found bench to hold sandwiches, long restroom line.

Bill went on walking tour to Paul Revere’s house & statue and North Church; Monument on Breed’s Hill for Bunker Hill

Other bus and driver stopped in Lexington at the information center for restroom break; that is much more reasonable.

Formal night, lobster

Show, okay

 

Tuesday, Oct 11 Newport, Rhode Island

7 am wake up

Princess tour “Vanderbilt’s Newport, The Breakers & Marble House”

Tender port

Tour of Breakers, beautiful house, and Marble House, okay

Tour around town and back to ship for late lunch 4 pm.

By this time we were really tired and did not enjoy Newport so much. One “cottage” was enough.

Weather: sunny & cool, nice

Yes, we considered the foliage was at peak. It was beautiful in several places.

Had good weather in all, 2 days of wind (Quedbec City & Boston) and only 1 day of drizzle. The wind was worse than the rain.

Hope you hit it at a good time next year.
