Advice needed London to Harwich

Hi all. We will arrive in London early Saturday cruising out on Sunday in July. I would like suggestions as to sites and transit from airport to port. Would like to avoid unnecessary backtracking. Traveling with three others. We'll need hotel Saturday night. With Heathrow 2 hrs away from port, would be great to find something sort of on the way to see. A castle, garden or museum with a reasonable hotel orB&B. I know.... Expensive city at the height of the season. All ideas are welcome. We have family elsewhere in England but are clueless about London and harwich.

Suggest looking on some of the Europe boards for some great info also.

Hotels are expensive in London. We are fortunate to be able to stay with my sister in London when we are traveling.

We have taken a mini cab to Liverpool station and then the train from there. It is extremely efficient and the train station in Harwich is across the street from the Ferry terminal. It runs pretty frequently and is a very pleasant journey.

As a heads local Mini cabs are a lot cheaper than taxis in London.

Alternatively the Underground is a fantastic system so easy to get around within London itself.

Have fun, we love our Europe cruises.

In the market for another one.

This will give you some ideas.

We did a cruise out of Harwich last May on the Brilliance, Baltic itinerary. We found Harwich to be a cute little port town with nice little shops and a pretty little church. They also had a pier area with a few outdoor eateries. We chose to use Banana Cars at a very reasonable price to take us from Heathrow out to Harwich and we stayed in an awesome inn named the Pier House. Great breakfast and the Fish n Chips were the best we ever had! Cab ride from the inn to the port was 8 pounds. We really enjoyed our short stay in Harwich. :)

We always use Adelphi Executive Hire for our transports in London, tell Darren that you found out about him in Cruise Critics. Last summer we stayed at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel and loved it. :)

We were on the same cruise as Dolfans. Hi Dolfans!

We flew in to LHR the day of the cruise and flew out of LHR on the last day of the cruise. We would have liked to spend time in London, but, well, there's always next time. We took the RC transportation roundtrip. As usual, the RC rep met us outside of customs and escorted us to a bus, which took us directly to the ship. Fortunately, the bus had a small restroom.

Enjoy your cruise!

Yeah, the Texans! Hope all is well with you guys. We still think about what a great cruise that was. We are off to the Med on the Serenade out of Barcelona this May. Thanks for the shout out and maybe our paths will cross again on a future cruise! :)

We also travelled from London to Harwich a couple of years ago. We found a family company based in Harwich and they were great. They picked us up,at our hotel and took us right to the cruise ship. On time, nice car, friendly. They also picked us up in Harwich at the end of the cruise and drove us directly to heathrow.

I would recommend this company, A2B cabs. The email address is marcaida@btinternet.com. The owner's name is Tony.

Any questions feel free to ask.

If it was me I would get a central london hotel the it is easy to sightsee by tube or walking. Their is a cruise bus that picks up from central london on the days that cruises depart from Harwich and it takes you to the ship. You can google it. We are cruising from Harwich but we are in Uk so are going by train to London then train to Harwich and staying in a Premier Inn on the Night before (premier Inn and good clean budget hotels by the way).

Beware ! - Adelphi Executive Hire- Darren Parsons, proprietor

If you are considering using this firm, be aware of the difficulties you may encounter, and then be kind to yourself and look elsewhere.

We hired him and then found he outsources his work to third parties, without fully informing them of the clients’ needs. When he arranged for a pick up at the airport, the driver arrived with too small a car for four people and luggage. A cab was called, Darren saying he’d reimburse the cost, but never did. On the return trip after a cruise, he again sent too small a vehicle and we had to hold luggage on our lap for two hours back to the airport
