sk8terchick Posted July 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2014 Hi:) Has anyone here gone to Catalina island for the day from Long Beach? We dock in Long Beach for our cruise in October. It looks like the Catalina Express is only few minutes away from the carnival pier. I believe this is where we will be docking for our day in Long Beach from 7am to 5pm. Anyone done this? fabby50 Posted July 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Yes, lots of times. Grew up in Huntington Beach. Do you have questions?
SadieN Posted July 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Best to take the 8:30 Express. It takes about an hour. The best return is 2pm. The 3:45 would be get you in too late into Long Beach. Most things do not open until 10am. http://www.catalinaexpress.com/PDFs/CatalinaExpressSchedule_0627_0901_14.pdf Another idea is to take the free Passport bus to the Aquarium of the Pacific. The bus is in the parking lot, under the trees. http://www.lbtransit.com/Services/Passport.aspx aquariumofpacific.org Edited July 28, 2014 by SadieN
Lazy K Posted August 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Has anybody been on the Casino tour in Catalina? If so, did it include "behind the scenes" locations like the Green room, etc.?
Rosefloater Posted August 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2014 Has anybody been on the Casino tour in Catalina? If so, did it include "behind the scenes" locations like the Green room, etc.? There are 2 Casino tours. The one you want is called "Behind the Scenes" tour. It was very interesting. Here is the link for the Behind the Scenes tour. There is also a shorter tour. http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/activities-adventures/catalina-casino The longer tour does the shorter tour and adds to it. Lazy K Posted August 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2014 Rosefloater, Thank you for the clarification and the link regarding the Casino tour. The one offered from the ship appears to be the shorter one since there is no mention of the "behind the scenes" venues. It also appears that the Casino is within walking distance from the pier. I think I will get a ticket on line and walk over for the longer tour. Thanks, Lazy K
Rosefloater Posted August 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 18, 2014 You are correct. The cruise tour is the shorter one. It is about a 10 minute walk to the casino. When we did the tour a few years ago, we met at the entrance to the casino.
