hinkley Posted September 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2007 Have you done it (to get to the port)? Good idea??? There is a bus service wwwnationalexpress.com which picks you up outside your terminal. the buses are very comfortable cheaper they give senior discounts & the driver handles your luggage. Trains are difficult getting on & off with luggage ,plus its a quite a walk to stations
cruiseluv Posted September 7, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2007 Our family of 3 adults and 2 teenagers took the train in reverse, Southampton to London. We were coming from a QM2 cruise. You have to be able to bring on the lugagge. Once you do that, you can leave it in the space between coach cars. If you are able bodied it is not a big deal. The train is approx 1.5 hrs. No need to walk to the port. There are taxis you can take. I think it was around 7-10 pounds. I believe the bus takes longer.
Globaliser Posted September 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2007 Have you done it (to get to the port)? Good idea???Transport from London to Southampton is probably the most asked question on the British Isles forum. And amongst the many threads on the subject, you would have found this current one. Hope that helps. It would also help to know whether you are starting in London, or at a London airport.
coop2 Posted September 11, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 11, 2007 Do I get a ticket to Southampton "CENTRAL"? (Closest to the port?)
vortigern Posted September 11, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2007 Yes, Southampton Central for the port - the alternative is Southampton Airport Parkway which is on the outskirts of the city. Trains call at the Airport first but don't be tempted to get off there. Vortigern
