Skagway - Yukon Discovery vs Railroad

Ok so this coming summer will be our 1st ever trip to Alaska. I have been looking all around planning excursions and stuff but we are really torn on what to do on our day in Skagway.

I am a photographer so I would like the best photo ops and we can't decide on weather to do the White Pass Railroad or do the Yukon Discovery excursion where you drive out to the Yukon/Emerald lake.

Any advice would help!

How about the Chilkoot tour that does both of your options ? https://chilkootcharters.com/package/white-pass-summit-the-rail-and-bus/ I thought it was terrific, with as many photo ops as you could want. All the best, Tony

I agree with the suggestion for Chilkoot's rail/bus tours. I liked the Bennett Scenic tour best.

Another option is to just rent a car and drive into the Yukon yourself. This would allow you to stop whenever you want for photos. We've done this too, and it allowed us to spend time where we wanted rather than having to stick with a group.

Great - but I made an error and pasted the wrong link in my previous post (that tour only goes to Fraser BC and does not go into the Yukon). This is the one you want (7.5 hours, $184 pp) https://chilkootcharters.com/product/yukon-rail-bus/ which calls at Emerald Lake. I went on that and made a couple of videos of the day, which can be found from the Alaska/Canadian Rockies link in my signature below. Or you could do that other tour that Sherry mentioned, which looks superb too https://chilkootcharters.com/product/bennett-scenic-journey/ (8 hours $229) and also goes to Emerald Lake.
