Glasgow (Greenock) Scotland

If you like architecture / art noveau you might want to take a look at Charles Rennie Mackintosh locations including Hill House which is at Helensburgh. He also designed some of the Glasgow College of Art and a tearoom in Sauchiehall Street in central Glasgow.

I'd say Glasgow you could spend all day just roaming the streets and the batanical gardens are great .........I've spent a month there a few years back and didn't cover the sites. There is a double decker bus city tour ( from George's square ) about an hour without getting off and on that is reasonable.

Would definitely recommend the open top bus tour of Glasgow, visit the People's Palace social history museum (and delicious eatery in the Winter Garden!), the Tenement House, The Hunterian Museum and anything connected with Charles Rennie Mackintosh! There's good shopping to be had too! Alternatively if you are into vertically moving water, you might like to investigate the FALKIRK WHEEL!

I asked the tour desk if there were any excursions that a 7 year old would enjoy and she said to take a taxi to the highlands and go to a sheepherding farm where they have the shepard puppies and some wild falcons and such. I didn't do it because I could pry my son away from the ship. I was told it would be an hour by taxi each way and would run about 200 pounds ($ 300 US).

Can anyone recommend "don't miss" excursions or trips here? We are there from 8 am on the 29th to 2am on the 30th. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Inverclyde Tourist Group http://www.inverclydetouristgroup.co.uk has a booth at the pier in Greenock to assist tourists. This is a wonderful organization of volunteers that will make suggestions and offer FREE tours of their city and the surronding area. The only thing they ask is for a small donation to offset the price of petrol. We took a couple of their tours and had a delightful day in Greenook.

I think you will really enjoy meeting these people and taking their tours of Greenook.

I would recommend Kelvingrove Museum and Art Galleries

(free admission!) and also across the road is the Transport Museum

Kids love both these museums
