What to need for NCL perks

After Carnival just tried to charge me more than the price of the actual cruise to upgrade from a free 5 day to a 7 day cruise I will be taking my last 4 day with them and then I am done with carnival. What kind of point value do you need with NCL for comped rooms and cash back? I have seen many points but wondered from personal experience what to expect. Thanks

I'm relatively new to cruising, took my first 2 cruises on NCL with offers from a local casino in an inside cabin. I play slots only, no table games. After the first one, I didn't know to call CAS direct but I called after the second one and they comped me a 7 night cruise on the Breakaway in a balcony cabin, so I booked for October. I just received a postcard in the mail for a 7 day cruise on our choice of 5 ships, mostly in Oct., Nov. or Dec. with $200 in freeplay. I called and chose the Breakaway again(I love the Breakaway and I don't have to fly to get there) and they're comping me a mini suite. On both cruises, I also received $50.00 OBC.

I don't know exactly how many points I earned on my first cruise on the Epic, but I think it was under 2000 points. On that cruise, they took $121.00 off my bill at the end of the cruise. On the second cruise, I made enough points to advance to the next tier and they took $300.00 off my final bill. I think I was able to get more points on the Breakaway because the slots weren't as tight as they were on the Epic.

Also, an added bonus is the card for free drinks in the casino.

I went on the Sun and got just over 5,000 points on a 10 day cruise. I have received a few offers for special tournaments and received a couple of "comped" cruises (one in flight, one not booked yet). It is $10 per point for video poker and $5 per point on slots.

Mikkar, did you just talk to the host to get the room credit? I didn't do that on the Sun, but would like to try on the Getaway. Thanks!

The last night of the cruise, they let you know how much you have coming off your final bill. The first cruise on the Epic, they said you have to go to guest services in the casino to tell them to apply it to your bill, but the second cruise on the Breakaway, they said you didn't have to do that if you were booked through CAS and that it would automatically be applied. It showed up on my bill as "Casinos At Sea Rewards".

For your 1st cruise I think they transfer you rating from a land based casino. Your room is precomped based on your theoretical loss. They provide additional comps based on play .... again based on rhetorical loss at the end of the cruise. 2nd cruise onwards your comps are based on theoretical loss on your last NCL sailing.

There is no direct link between the land based casinos and NCL's CAS. For your first cruise they will consider your rating with your land based casino simply as an indicator of what value you might have to their operation. After your first cruise, your rating is determined solely by your last cruise with NCL.

NCL determines your comps based on the money you put at risk, not on the amount of money you lose. There is a good overview of the CAS program here: http://www.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/casinos-at-sea/players-club

Future offers from CAS are determined by your CAS level, and the popularity and sales level of the ship and cruise itinerary you're trying to book. The only ship you cannot book through CAS is the Pride of America, as there is no casino operation on that ship.

We have consistently found NCL's CAS to provide the best value for our gambling dollar. We've been very happy with the comps we've received on our cruises, and the cruises we've taken through CAS.

Absolutely not true. Land casino play has nothing to do with cruise casinos except getting comped cruises from your land based casino.

For my very 1st casino cruise on NCL. I had 0 history with NCL so they reviewed my Vegas average bet rating to decide what they would pre-comp me in terms of room. Its standard practice at almost all casinos for 1st time players to see your ratings from else where so they can decide how to pre-comp your room the 1st time you visit them.

Was that back in 2002? When I had my first, they told me they don't do anything for first time cruisers (Vegas/Other lines/Etc). We booked our 2013 cruise in the end of 2012. I wonder if they have changed their policies or if I just got the "wrong" agent the first time......

Yeah my 1st cruise was in 2002 and they did transfer my Vegas rating for pre-comping the room on the 1st cruise. That said this is very standard practice so I'd be surprised if they changed it. But maybe they did. Did you talk to Jesus at CAS? ... he is mostly crabby till he gets to know you.

I don't remember who it was that first time I called. I have a contact now, and have been treated very well, so not a huge deal. Let me know if they do a casino sail away party when you go in July on the Getaway, we are on her at the end of August. Good luck and happy sailing!

I'm not sure about it. Maybe your a "whale" and in that case they do some thing for you they dont do for mediocre gamblers.

I know in Atlantic city I was diamond at harrahs and wanted a change. I called the taj which I had never been to and said I wanted to come there can I talk to a host they connected me to one and he made me a chairmen level (equivalent to harrahs diamond) immediately. So yes from land casino to land casino it works But I have been told many times cruises don't give a rats behind about your gambling habits at land casinos but again maybe your a high roller and get special treatment.

clcjdn, My wife and I just got off of the Getaway yesterday and yes they had a sail away party in the Bliss dance club at 5 o'clock. Few people there but plenty of drinks and the casino manager and a hostess came around and talked to everybody. We had a great time and can't wait to go again. This was only our second cruise with NCL but hope for many more.;) Pink

That is not true. If you book through a casino junket, they can evaluate your play and basically represent you with the cruiseline.

I have taken free cruises on cruiselines that I had never sailed on based on my established play....but it is not something I could have done on my own. The junket I work with represents a large number of land based casinos as well as the big cruiselines...... They got me my free cruises based on my ranking at Mohegan Sun, another outlet that they represent.

  • 4 weeks later...

The points on the card confuse me, from what I believe, and the way I'm reading this. I had about 3500 points on the breakaway on the last night. I downloaded it and played it in the machine. I think I downloaded $35, since that was what 3500 points is worth. There was nothing taken off of my final bill and I have never received any offer from NCL. Are you saying that the 3500 is worth much more if I left it there?

I think you need at least 5000 pts for them to take off money from your final bill. You can cal CAS directly and see if they will comp your next cruise. I'm sure with 3500 pts you will get some sort of comp cabin.

I seem to remember the level for deductions from your final bill was 2500 points or more. That could have changed though. There's a lot of leeway available to the casino managers when evaluating play for deductions against the final bill...their formula may say "X" amount for so many points, but they can and do adjust this.

As for offers from NCL, FootballParent is correct. Once you're a CAS player, you can always call the CAS number and ask what they'll do for you on any given cruise. Once again, it's a complex system: your offer will depend not only on your past play, but also on the cruise you want (i.e. How popular is that cruise on that ship on that date, and what kind of inventory does CAS have available on that cruise).

I think it is definitely 2500 points to have it applied to your bill. I thought that would mean $25 is subtracted from your bill. This is why I just downloaded the $35. It didn't seem like that big of a deal. Someone here said they had $300 taken off their bill. I thought you would need 30,000 points for that.

I did call cas to book my last 3 cruises. I did have free certificates through foxwoods. I asked, if I were to call and book without a certificate, if there was anything they could do for me, and she said no.

I had $300.00 taken off my bill on the Breakaway in March. I'm not really sure how they calculate it but I didn't have 30,000 points. I did go from Lucky to Hot and I was just shy of Golden which is 15,000 points and I had 14,000+ points.

I would try calling again and don't mention having a certificate and ask what the rate would be on a cruise that you're interested in taking. Maybe you'll get a different answer. Instead of calling the phone number on the certificate, try calling 877-752-9625. Good luck

I will definitely try again after I come back from my September cruise. I really want to take the Canada/New England cruise. The last certificate I picked up offered this one, but I already had the Bermuda cruise booked and I had to use it within a year, so couldn't book this one. I will call them and see what they offer for that cruise without waiting for the next certificate. Thanks for the suggestion.
