Sfdtiller Posted August 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Our plan is to find a beach from the many listed, sit back splash in the water and have some cheap beers or other local beverage. We will then head over to Maho to watch the planes. So my question is which beach would be recommended for the cheap beers. Is the beach near the pier/Phillipsburg a good spot to start? If you are interested in visiting one of the islands best beaches I would suggest taking a taxi to Mullet and then walking the 15 minutes over to Maho. Guys is cheaper than Sunset for drinks at Maho. AnitaVacation Posted September 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2014 Last time we were in St Maartin.....we took the water taxi over to the beach (the one you can see right from the ship)...the water taxi drops you off in the center of the beach and we walked to the left...we discovered that the further you walk, the cheaper the chairs/umbrellas get.....we stopped when we were offered two chairs, an umbrella and a bucket of beer of $20....it was a great day! Refills on the bucket were like $10...and you don't have to have beer, you can have water and or soda or mix it up...

AnitaVacation Posted September 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2014 The entire beach is filled with chairs and umbrellas...it's not really a 'place'....just different people working different sections. .. I do remember the casino being behind us (or a sign that said casino) (we walked a little past it)...the further you walk from the center. ...the cheaper the prices got Sent from my GT-P5113 using Forums mobile app
Micgoody Posted September 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2014 What is the cost for the water taxi? And what beach does it drop you off at?
cruisingrightalong Posted September 8, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) We do the "water taxi" over and beach, 2 chairs, umbrella and bucket of beverages for $20....we sit in front of the Holland Hotel....the nice white building. Seems to be a good locale. Get there on the early side...water taxi is like $8 round trip. We do the beach from early to about 1 then head to the right (put the sea behind you) to The Blue B**** Bar. Best Nachos around. Then head over 1 block if you want to see some stores or just sit and people watch. The water taxi has 2 drop offs...1 to the left and 1 to the right. If you go to the left one...get off....turn right along the side walk...Holland House will be about the 3-4 th one along the sidewalk....bright white. It has food there also. Lots of them will try and grab you. Just say headed somewhere else thanks. Lou Edited September 8, 2014 by cruisingrightalong

I was wondering if you need any kind of advance reservation, or just walk in off the street. Do you think they take only a limited number of "beach bums"? martinhughes1 Posted September 18, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 18, 2014 I think little brown bottle Heinekens were $2 about 4 years ago. brown bottle not sold in US and tastes better. I believe they are about 10 oz. Umbrella chairs and bucket for $20 sounds reasonable. Refills for $10. We parked our butts in front of Holland House because it was raining and they had an over hang to stand under. Will probably go there again next month during our Sunshine cruise. Maho beach is cool too. We first took an island tour by taxi for about $20 per person and stopped at Sunset beach bar for a couple of beers. Watched some planes land. Will probably do it again next month too since taxi will take you to French side of island to shop at the outdoor market there. Beer is also available there as well. I did not recall St Maarten being very costly for anything. Besides, you are on vacation not a budget. Definitely cheaper than the ship.
