Weather temps in Spain, Portugal, France in October

Recommended Posts

I am considering booking a western Mediterranean cruise with RCI in early October but a little apprehensive about the weather. Are temperatures fairly warm there during the Fall - i.e., 80's? Is it a good time of year to be cruising? Any info provided is greatly appreciated.

There are hundreds of threads about Mediterranean weather in all seasons of the year.

October is when the weather starts to change in the Med and can be unsettled and could rain, but won't be cold. Maybe 18-22c during the day, becoming cooler in the evenings.

No, temperatures won't be in the 80s in those places in October. Spain, Portugal and France are Western Med ports and October, particularly later in October, can be quite unsettled. That's not to say that you won't get some nice days, but be prepared for some cooler (and shorter days) and that you may very well get some rainy days.

Its never 80° in the Mediterranean, the maximum is about 40°C.

Seriously, °F is not used in Europe any more , max at this time 24-25°C (77°F) but it is a good idea to be aware of °C, to help you start 2 easy ones , reversals

16°C = 61°F

28°C = 82°F

No locals under 50year olds understand Fahrenheit, TV, papers, internet, street signs are all in °C, it's good to be familiar with this with planning as to daily weather.

We did those places 2 years ago it was at the end of October the Spain ports were very warm but as you come to France the temp drops. You never know what the temp will be it can depend on a lot of things. Just enjoy the time. If you have great weather then that is a bonus.

Depends whereabouts in Spain - cooler in October (18-22 degrees C) up towards Barcelona and a few degrees warmer (20 to 24 degrees C) further south around Malaga and can be noticeably cooler in the Atlantic ports such as Cadiz and Vigo. Portugal is not a Mediterranean country so again it has Atlantic temperatures similar to Vigo. French Med ports will have similar temperatures to Barcelona.

We like sailing in the Med in early October and have always had warm temperatures and reasonably flat seas. It can be very different by the end of the month/into November when seas can be rough and weather very unsettled - even more so in Atlantic ports.
