Taxis

But there is another problem for our fellow Americans. It might happen that a taxi will accept a credit card (usually MC or Visa) but they may not accept non Chip/PIN cards. More and more we are finding that the US issued magnetic strip cards are being rejected by some merchants, restaurants, taxis, etc.

Most but NOT all taxis in Amsterdam accept creditcard.

Many drivers also arenot willing to accept cc for short rides.

Indeed a chip on your cc might be needed on many machines.

Chip cards with 4 digit pins are no problem as we have had them in Canada for some time. :D Thanks for your help. We will ask BEFORE we get into a taxi and be sure they accept credit cards. We will have some local currency with us but prefer to use a credit card due to the great exchange rate it provides.
