bksprincess Posted June 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2017 We will be visiting Pago Pago, Bora Bora, Papeete and Moorea this October and looking to do as much snorkeling as we can get in. Family of 4 (all adults) so taking tours get expensive. Are there areas we can get to independently on any of the islands that will give us a good snorkeling experience? First time visitors to this part of the world, really looking forward to it. Oh forgot to say we'll be cruising so time is somewhat limited in each spot. Thanks all. On Bora Bora - Rent your own skiff – La Plage - laplage.bora@hotmail.com - You don't need a special license to hire a motor boat from La Plage. Currently it appears to be the only place for small boat hire Bora Bora. They only have a few, so book ahead to make sure of availability on the date you want. La Plage will provide an ice box and just meters down the road (south) there is a small supermarket where locals shop. Their prices are good, usually around $150 - $200 for the day. You can buy some snacks and drinks to take on your boat adventure. Boat hire is available between 8.30am and 5.30pm. From their dock you have easy access to the snorkeling off their back side of the Sofitel Motu and the area where the manta rays hang out. On Moorea - good snorkeling between the motus on the north west side of the island. There are shuttles from the IC Moorea, Les Tipaniers and Coco Beach. Go to the Lagoonarium. Easy and accessible. They say they can pick you up at the tender drop off location. This is off the beaten trek …
bksprincess Posted June 18, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Thanks for the suggestions. I saw the Lagoonarium online somewhere and was wondering if we could just go there or whether we had to book a tour. Now I'll check to see if they do pick ups from the dock. FlightMedic555 Posted June 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2017 The Lagoonararium does not pick up from the docks. You can rent a car and head over there. No tour is required but they do charge to "get in". There is a public beach next to the Hilton that you can enjoy at no cost, other than the transport. mjthecruiser Posted June 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2017 How do you recommend getting to the public beach next to the Hilton? Or should we plan this stop for the day we are renting a car? Is parking a problem?

Is parking a problem? Parking is typically not an issue as long as it isn't a weekend day. We usually stop when we rent a car ...
