We are sailing on Oasis and have been rerouted to western Caribbean due to what was hurricane Danny. We are now stopping in costa Maya tomorrow. Any suggestions on what to do? Is the pool/beaches by the pier free or is here a cover charge? Is there free wifi there? Any good shops? TIA!

The pool is free there. Shops are typical cruise port shops. Bars and restaurants are overpriced.

Take a taxi or the bus from the cruise port (walk all the way through to the parking lot) for $3 per person and go to the beaches/malecon in Mahaual. There are numerous "beach clubs" along the strip. Look for Tropicante/ YaYa/ Pez Quadro for better service. Loungers are "free" but you'll be politely asked to purchase food or drink. Massages along the beach are available. There are a few local crafts places, but be careful some "local crafts" come from China. If you just want to walk along the malecon, look for 100%Agave about half way down on a corner. Great food and good tequila.
