cab fare LGA to JFK?

Need to transfer LGA-JFK for an upcoming itinerary, and generally prefer a cab to a shuttle. Approximate fare I should expect? TIA

USE A CAR SERVICE-about $35-40. We use Dial 7 almost exclusively, although we do have a corporate Carmel account. Both are very satisfactory. Both have their drivers sit in lots right outside the airport and when you are off the plane with luggage, call. They will be there within 5-10 minutes. I have NEVER waited any longer than 15 minutes and that was in a snowstorm.

DO NOT USE A TAXI-could cost you an arm and a leg. The traffic on the Van Wyck and some of the connector roads to get you between the two airports can be backed up due to construction (seems like there is ALWAYS construction on the Van Wyck), a wreck or just general heavy traffic. And that meter just keeps ticking away while you sit.

I do this on a somewhat regular basis because almost monthly I fly into JFK from LAX. I stay at the Crowne Plaza very often (now the LaGuardia Plaza) which is directly across the freeway from LGA.

Thanks. It was a few dollars more than estimated cab fare but worth it to me so I booked it anyway.

Those stupid "taxi" estimators don't include any tolls and waiting time. And they are VERY, VERY often far off (there is one in particular that ALWAYS states it is $26.50 from LGA to Manhattan-can't find the website right now but it obviously hasn't been updated anytime recently). Well, it depends on what route the taxi takes and it hasn't been under $30 for at least 3 years. Over the 59th St Bridge-no toll. But take one of the tunnels into the city and you have a toll which isn't included. And then the waiting time in a cab can literally kill the estimators.

You are going to be doing this in the middle of rush hour. It can easily take over an hour to get between the 2 airports at that time. Traffic creeping along stop and go at 10MPH. One fender bender and traffic STOPS particularly the closer you get to JFK. And your $35 cab fare just went up to $50 due to the wait time.

You made a wise choice. Car services are far superior to taxis for anything other than short trips in Manhattan. You KNOW in advance what the total fee is other than the tip.

Thanks, I can't recall ever having to go between the two airports so I really had no idea what the approximate cab fare would be. After getting some info here, the decision was a no brainer. It will be a crazy weekend as it is; I really didn't need any fare surprises on the front end, lol.

For the benefit of others reading this thread. Shuttle bus service between the 2 airports are provided by at least 3 different companies.

ETS shuttle charges $10 per passenger. A car service will probably save you 15-30 minutes. A car service is more convenient. Some people have enough time and would like to save a few dollars. Might make sense for a single traveler, or a couple. Not much savings for a party of 3 or 4.
