Hiking Bermuda

You don't exactly go 'around' the island - it's 22 miles long (actually a series of islands with bridges between) and only a couple of miles wide at the widest point - most of it is much narrower.

And yes, many many thousands of people have hiked the whole island - every May we have the 'End to End' charity run/walk/cycle from St George to Dockyard which is very well supported. Most walkers take 7 - 8 hours, I think.

If you are interested, I'd suggest getting the first ferry from Dockyard to St George and then walking back, using the Railway Trail as much as possible. If you think that's too much for one day, since you really must stop and look at interesting things along the way, walk St George to Hamilton on one day, get the ferry back to Dockyard, then get the ferry to Hamilton the next day and do the rest.

Thank you for the links. Have you done the St. George to Hamilton walk and if so are there great picture opportunities?

I have done both walks and, this being Bermuda which is an incredibly beautiful island, there are great picture opportunities everywhere.

OTOH, I must admit that the bit of the St G to Hamilton walk that goes past the airport is kinda boring - it's flat, reclaimed land - but if you look right instead of left the view down Ferry Reach is still stunning. In compensation, the bit by Baileys Bay is hugely improved since a new footbridge over the water was opened recently.

If I decided to do the railway trail in two days but stay out there, could I bring my hammock and sleep under the stars? Is that 1.legal? 2.plausible? And 3.safe?
