Canary Islands in November

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this. If not, please let me know where I would get the best advice.

We are looking at a repositioning cruise on Royal Caribbean at the beginning of Novemeber, leaving from Barcelona and making 3 stops in the Canary Islands-

Lanzarote

Gran Canaria

Santa Cruz de la Palma

Is this a good time to be visiting these ports? First of all, we do not do beaches or care about swimming. We have never been to this area of the world and we were just wondering about the weather that time of year and what might be doing at these ports, this time of year.

You are on the right forum. I'm in the same boat as you are as we will be in Tenerife in November as well on a T/A. I would look at weather sites as a guide and the Canary Islands visitor site, www.hellocanaryislands.com/weather/. Have a great trip.

Weather will be okay but you may get some rain. Temperatures mid 70'sf

You will be fine. Usually the weather at that time of year is still very warm, at the most you'll need a light jacket and some rain protection. The north on the islands you mentioned are more apt to have some rain than the south. Lanzarote is the driest of the three and very beautiful - don't miss the Timanfaya region. Lots of tours are offered, taxis are reasonable in regard to prices (fixed prices).

Gran Canaria is the biggest, you won't be able to see everything there is in just one day.

La Palma has the most rain of the three, but is very lush and green.

We took a transatlantic cruise in April and visited Gran Canaria and La Palma. They were both great! There's plenty to see in the two main cities (Las Palmas and Santa Cruz). The weather in April was perfect - November would probably be similar. We are doing another transatlantic cruise next April, because we enjoyed it so much! Hope you do too.

November's a bit unreliable for the weather, Len. But it's the closest destination for Brits looking for winter sun, and since you're not a beach type you should be fine.

A number of options on Lanzarote - Timanfaya Nat Park (volcanic landscape) and the volcanic coast near El Golfo, or in the opposite direction Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, or a 10-minute taxi ride from the ship to Cesar Manrique's house.

Gran Canaria - consider renting a car to explore the mountainous centre of the island.

Tenerife - again, consider renting a car & exploring the Caldera de Taburiente Nat Park.

Best-known car rentals in the Canaries is Cicar, we've used them a number of times - excellent.

I assume from your post that you may be on the Freedom sailing from Barcelona and might want to come over to the Roll Call and check out the tours that Bill and Christy have arranged for the Canary Islands. He is the OP so just click on the link below his signature. He has produced a spreadsheet for each of the cruises he does which keeps all the information in one place.

I was with them on the Panama Canal cruise last year and he arranged all the tours that we took. Each was wonderful and very reasonable priced and well organized. He is still in negotiations for the Las Palmas port but you can see what he has arranged for the other 2 ports. If you are on our sailing just post your interest in these excursions even though they are full. People often drop out or Bill often adds just another bus to accommodate all that are interested. If this is not your sailing at least you have a starting point to consider great operators. Bill's research is impeccable.

We haven't booked yet, just exploring our options. It is either this cruise, or another repo at of Rome to San Juan. We just weren't sure what the Canary Islands were like in November, but now we have a much better idea. We will make a decision very soon.

Hi, Len.

Yes, all is well, though 'er-indoors is getting cruise withdrawal symptoms ;) - we've been taking road trips this year & we haven't set foot on a ship since January. Which incidentally was a week around the Canaries & Madeira.
