hambone99 Posted July 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2012 First time cruiser and was wondering where to put personal items (wallet, credit cards, cash) while doing water activities on an excersion? Would appreciate any other tips you may have. Thanks for taking the time to share with me : ))
HImom Posted July 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2012 If all you have is cash, credit cards & ship&sail card, you can put them in a ziplock bag & tie it around your neck. There are more elegant versions of this & waterproof pouches, etc. sold in sporting goods stores, WalMart camping section & other locations as well. Some places have lockers you can rent for your valuables. A few more trusting souls bury their valuables under their beach towels in a ziplock--I personally prefer to keep my things on my person. However, if you want to take something that is not water friendly, then I suggest a water wallet ... http://www.amazon.com/Ewa-Marine-Wallet-Protective-Waterproof-Splash/dp/B000E31Q7O http://www.amazon.com/LOKSAK-Splashsak-Dipper-FP/dp/B000BQU3JQ http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Tek-Dry-Alligator-Wallet/dp/B000BJ7WHE http://www.rei.com/category/4501504
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 12, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2012 Take as few items as possible and I would purchase an item to hold them in as Cuizer2 has suggested. Keith
Anthomaniac Posted July 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2012 If you are booking an excursion with a reputable company, they will often provide a place to keep your personal items.
t_car Posted July 12, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2012 I have always found that the small freezer bags with the doublezip closure works best, and bring very little with you. Check the requirements for your particular port. Some ports require a Photo Identification card (drivers licence)along with the sign and sail card. Ensure you have a zipper pocket, so your bag does not float away.
chriscross Posted July 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2012 Go with a reputable company, and you'll be able to store your stuff safely with them, that's my advice.
dsrdsrdsr Posted July 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 15, 2012 As long as you aren't in a port where you must take your passport, then I'd wear shorts with a zip pocket for swimming in - cruise card and credit card go in there - and keep a small amount of cash in your shoe. pdmlynek Posted July 15, 2012 #9 Share Posted July 15, 2012 You can keep you room key, credit card and some cash in a zippered pocket of your swimming suit. Make sure that it is zippered not just Velcroed (I've lost cash by using just Velcro :( ). It is OK for all of these items to get wet.
