Are you just staying overnight? What are you hoping to see or do during that time?

We are getting in late afternoon so probably a little walking around, beach bar and light dinner.

Have you considered the Sonesta Maho? It's a few minutes taxi ride from the airport and the Maho entertainment area is a safe place with many bars and restaurants and there are two beach bars at Maho beach as well. I think this is a wise choice for a late afternoon which could easily turn in to an early evening arrival.

While we now spend a few days at Mary's Boon each trip, we did spend just one night there when we missed our plane and needed a room. Obviously, we keep coming back, so we like it. I thought it was perfect for one night and a $10 cab ride from the airport.

They have a bar and restaurant on site, but I'd suggest going next door to Karakter for dinner and drinks.

I'm not familiar with the other hotel, but I wouldn't want to wander around Philipsburg after dark.
