Best Beaches in St Croix

Our cruise this year may stop in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Has anyone taken a beach break there and what did you think of the beaches for cleanliness, clarity and crowds.

Have you checked on the ports of call forum? There is not alot of info on St. Croix there but you would probably get more information from that forum.

I just cruised last week on the Jewel. St. Croix was one of the ports. We always go to Sandcastle Beach. There is a small hotel there. Cab fare is $6.00 round trip. The hotel charges $5.00 for a chair and $10.00 for an umbrella. I love this beach because the water is lovely. There are areas where you can snorkel and there is a small swimming pool as well. The restroom is clean, there is a restaurant and a bar.

The van that takes you there makes continuous trips. When you are ready to leave, just wait outside the hotel and it will return. We have gone there many times and never waited more than 10 minutes. It can get crowded if there are a lot of ships in port, but on the day we were there, we were the only ship. Have fun on your cruise.

We took the shuttle to Christiansted. It costs $16 and is sold from the port area. We toured the fort and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fort costs $3 but if you have a National Parks Senior pass, it is free. By the way if you are over 62 years old the NPS pass costs $10 and gets you and your party into all National parks along with your party for the rest of your life. Fabulous deal. We then took the $5 water taxi to hotel on the Cay. It took about 2 minutes and the beach there was spectacular. It was some of the most beautiful water we have ever seen, beautiful turquoise and perfectly clear.

Did you swim there and use the facilities? How was the beach bar? This sounds really interesting.

Thanks. We're considering staying at the Hotel on the Cay and wondered how the beach there compared to beaches we've visited elsewhere in the Carib. Per Deb's question, were you able to buy food and drinks at the bar?

We did not buy anything but you definitely could. I would say that the water was some of the most beautiful we have seen and we have been to most Caribbean Islands and consider ourselves beach snobs. There was a little bit of gravel or rocks as you entered the water but I didn't use waters hoes and I was fine. The water stays shallow and is very calm. It was perfect for us.

We recently stayed at the Hotel on the Cay. The beach is great and snorkeling was wonderful - we snorkeled all the way around the cay. It is one of the better beaches we have been to and have been to a lot. Cane bay beach is also a great on on St Croix.

The bar and restaurant was ok. A little pricey and spotty service. It was the only place in St Croix where the staff were not real friendly.

If you can get a good price for the hotel, it is a great deal. Christiansted is fun to walk around and has some nice eats. On weeknights a local food truck is set up near the scale house and is cheap and delicious.
