Walking from Phillipsburg to the ship safe?

Last year we just took the ferry because that's what we were told to do and we didn't do any research at all.

This year we are going to take a taxi out to Le Galleon beach and then a cab back to Phillipsburg to shop in the afternoon then head back to the ship. Is it walkable and easy to do? Roads and area safe?

I am looking at Google Maps now and I see the area where you get on the water taxi and then a big empty lot of some sort. It looks like I would walk down Juancho Blvd and town would be right there, but is that a crazy road?

No worries at all in the day time. In the afternoon there will be a steady stream of people to follow most likely. :) Front St and the boardwalk are parallel to each other. If you go to the boardwalk you can see the ship and the direction to walk. Take it to the end and follow the path that leads to the side walk and that curves to the right and follow the signs and the crowds.
