Afternoon tea at emirates palace hotel, abu dhabi

Will be on MSC Lirica from Dubai on 15th March. Did a similar cruise last year but was unable to see all the sights at the various ports of call so am making a return trip. As a solo traveller I tend to opt for the organised excursions. In Abu Dhabi one of the options is Afternoon Tea at the Emirates Palace Hotel. It seems a bit pricey at £88 so would appreciate feedback as to whether others who have done this think it worthwhile.

Thanks in advance for your help

When we were in Abu Dhabi two years ago, many people booked the high tea and were disappointed as they didn't use tea pots, just put the bag in the cup! Not worth the high cost.

I have contacted the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi to get some information on their Afternoon Tea Experience and had a lovely e-mail back. If anyone would like this information please e-mail me and I will forward it to you. You can then decide whether to go with the ship's excursion or go it alone.

Enjoy!

I was impressed with the reception I got when I turned up fro lunch. Lovely welcome at the front door when I got out the taxi. The girl then escorted me in and handed me over to someone who explained a bit about the areas we were

Asking through as she took me downstairs to the restaurant I'd booked for lunch. I'd decided to try Lebanese for the first time and the waiter was fantastic! politely offering assistance in making a choice and explaining everything without being in the least bit patronising.

Even later when just have a look around, evn security was so polite in explaining he could not allow me out on the private beach as I was not a resident, but still opening the doors and allowing me to see the whole area.

It was after. his tamas and the decorations were stunning. That said the architecture especially the central gold dome is stunning in itself without the need of decorations to be a memorable sight.

I would recommend that you give afternoon tea a miss and instead visit The Grand Mosque. It is stunning. I have had afternoon Tea at Emirates Palace and I was not that impressed. The are better options for afternoon tea in Dubai, should you be calling there. Ask if you want more details

I have been to the Grand Mosque (amazing I agree). Do not fancy Ferrari World or the F1 Circuit Tour but will have to think carefully about the Afternoon Tea Experience. I have done all the sights in Dubai - son and family are based there and I just love getting out there to visit them.

Like you I was a bit stuck what to do in Abu Dhabi having been a few times before.

I'm going to give the Monte Carlo beach club a try. It's on Saadiyat island and the reception tell me it's only about 15 minutes by taxi. The reception have been very helpful in answering my questions and organising a reservation for the pass and lunch booking on the terrace at Le Deck.

I dare say using the public beach would be cheaper but when you are on your own, what do you do with your stuff if you want to go into the sea? Also if you need to go and get a drink or food, what about your sun bed. I'm willing to pay extra to have a few extras and have somewhere safe to leave my belongings whilst at the pool.

It's AED175 on a weekday but a whopping 315 on weekend or public holiday. Needless to say I'm there on a weekday. You can read more here

I'll let you know what I thought about it when I get back.

Thank you for the information and link. Just my luck that the ship is in Abu Dhabi on a Sunday so that would bump up the price. As I plan to go to the Ocenanic Hotel in Khor al Fakkan for a relaxing day at the beach I don't think another beach day would be an option especially as I know son is planning to take me to Jebel Ali Beach Resort for a day as he has an executive pass there. We will also be going to the Dubai Creek Golf Resort for an evening meal on the boardwalk there. Emirates Palace is looking like the favourite but I may opt for the lunch there which you said was very nice. Decisions, decisions!!

Hope you have a great time. Thank you for all your very useful information

Regards

  • 2 months later...

I am back from my cruise on MSC Lirica from Dubai and just wanted to post to say I DID have afternoon tea at The Emirates Palace Hotel and WOW! what an experience. I organised everything direct with the hotel and saved quite a bit as opposed to going on an organised excursion. I also had the privilege of a personal guided tour around the hotel on arrival - it is breath-taking. The Afternoon Tea was delicious but too much so I arrived back at the ship with a large box containing sandwiches and cakes which I later shared with friends made via our Roll Call. I am SO glad I opted for this visit. Having been to Abu Dhabi before I had already visited the wonderful mosque - not to be missed if you are visiting Abu Dhabi for the first time.

All in all a great day out.
