Oak Hill Cruisers Posted October 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Not a traditional cruise but I'm looking for anyone who has taken a ferry from Igoumenitsa (Greece) to Brindisi (Italy). Looks like only two companies make the runs, Grimaldi Lines and the newly formed Egnatia Seaways (website under construction). Most of the runs start at about midnight and arrive early in the morning. Egnatia looks like they also have a 7:00am departure & 5:00pm arrival which we would prefer. Has anyone taken similar Greece to Italy ferries and, if so, what are the conditions on these ferries? Rare Essiesmom Posted October 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2014 suggest you ask this on the Ports of call board for the Eastern Med. My observation is that those fast ferries travel overnight. the arrive early morning, spend the day in port, and depart for an overnight return to their other port. ducklite Posted October 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2014 We looked at using the ferry system to do a primarily land based tour down the Dalmation coast. To be clear, we only researched it, we have not done this trip. What I learned was that the ferries typically run on or very close to schedule. There are two options for overnight ferries, one is a regular high back seat in one of the main lounges, the other was to book sleeping accommodations. There could be a lot of noise in the main lounges, as they were often adjacent to the bars, discos, theater room, or casino. There is usually one "quiet lounge" on each ferry, it fills quickly and usually with families, so how quiet it would actually be is questionable. There were two types of sleeping berths, one was a berth in a shared space, the other was a private cabin. The private cabins weren't cheap, and had two narrow twins in a bunk formation. There was no window, steel walls, and a very small w/c with a shower that would make the smallest bathroom on a cruise ship look roomy. There was no actual dedicated shower, the bathroom was the shower with a small sink and toilet in it. Unless you booked the private room there was only a w/c, no shower facilities. The space was probably 50 square feet total. I hope that helps.
