  1. Yeah, it looks like we have CFAR in our policy. Sort of dumb not to know this. Thanks again for all the comments!
  2. So, thanks to all for their replies so far. Usually, for our long cruises on Holland America, we get cancel for any reason (CFAR) insurance with HAL's Platinum Insurance. So, is it possible that our RCI Vacation Protection Plan already has CFAR coverage and we don't know it? When purchasing RCI insurance in past cruises, we never saw any sort of enhanced insurance product that has CFAR coverage. I'll call RCI tomorrow and see if we have CFAR in our policy.
  3. We have a booked an RCI cruise departing on January 26th. But we want to cancel this cruise (for reasons of aggravated pre-existing medical conditions) and ask RCI to transfer the January 26th cruise money to another cruise a little later this year. We have the standard RCI trip protection insurance. We are well into the cancellation penalty box. Has anyone had luck in last-minute cancellation/re-booking of cruises with RCI? We're going to give RCI a call after New Years and give it a go. Thanks in advance for comments & suggestions.
  4. For our sailing on the Regal Princess on December 10th, we were assigned to the Blue Line at the port because we have to pick up our medallions. But DW is handicapped and will be in a transporter chair so we wonder if they will allow us to go directly to the Accessibility Line (Grey Line) and get our medallions there. Don't want to have to go through two lines just for the medallions.
  5. We booked the Hotel Traiano for two nights prior to our 29 October 2023 TA to Miami on the RCI Explorer OTS. After booking, the hotel sent us an email advising that they can book a private shuttle from FCO at 120 euros for two people (also quoted prices for more than two people). We like the idea of having the hotel book this for us but we wonder if the quality of the car will be up to standards. Maybe we should inquire what shuttle/taxi service the hotel uses.
  6. Hi. Enjoyed your blog. Brought back memories of our 2018 GWV. Kiss the Fish! 😉 Question: Did you have Luggage Forward transport your boxes to embarkation and from disembarkation? If so, did you just flatten the boxes and re-tape them for Luggage Forward to pick them up from your cabin upon return to FL?
  7. Thanks. We went ahead and completed the form and submitted it. You saved us Luddites a USPS forever stamp and an envelope. 😉
  8. RCI sent us the form partially filled out. We completed the form and we want to mail, via USPS, the form to them so they can see our signature on the 'Written Attestation for Accessible Stateroom'. We luddites could just scan the documents and email it to them but we wonder if we could just snail mail the form to: Access Department 1050 Caribbean Way Miami, FL 33123
  9. From the Maris Freighter Cruises website: Passenger service on freighters is suspended currently, except on the ARANUI and Bella Desgagnés - (It is not expected to resume before most of the world population is well vaccinated against the coronavirus, hopefully later this year or next). We'll post here the first news we get from the steamship lines..
  10. Thank you for this thread. Because DW has mobility issues and she needs 100% supervision & care, a service like this will greatly ease airport & flying transfers. Will Luggage Forward also ship bags/boxes home after disembarkation or is it mostly from home to embarkation? Thanks in advance for replies & comments.
  11. Yes. Zuiderdam for the 2023 Voyage of the Vikings. Now looking at Special Needs At Sea for mobility rentals. But they don't list Boston as one of the ports they service. I'll have to call or look at another company.
  12. Good idea on renting a transport/wheel chair. I remember seeing the mention of some companies that provide this service. Now, where to look to find them. 😉
  13. Thanks for the heads-up on the wheelchair. We're hoping that, by July, she will have progressed with her PT and that she can get by with a rollator only. If she gets ill, we'll probably have to go to the ship's medical center and we could ask for a wheelchair to use till she gets stronger and can go back to her rollator. Just dreading having to take both a transport chair and a rollator on the plane.
  14. DW developed incontinence after a craniotomy to resect a pituitary adenoma. Also, she lost a lot of vision. So getting up at night to go to the potty was just too dangerous and I had to also get up and supervise. So, for the past year or so, we've been using the Purewick home system at nighttime only so we both can get some sleep. But the Purewick home system, ours with an 8-hour battery backup, are quite expensive ($500) and the single use female catheters are about $16 each -- all not covered by Medicare or our secondary BCBS of Texas. During the day, we use adult pull-up diapers and that works very well.
  15. Thanks to all for their comments and suggestions. Based on her recent progress with her rollator, we will definitely take it on our next big cruise (Voyage of the Vikings). We will leave her transporter-wheelchair in our car and if we have to have a wheelchair aboard ship due to illness, we'll get one from the ship.
  16. We are greatly enjoying your GWV blog. It brings back memories of our 2018 GWV on the Ms Amsterdam. Question for you: If you are not in a suite and your stateroom is an inside, outside view or veranda, can you tell us if your shower is a standup shower (not a tub shower) with a safety handrail and if the shower head is fixed or is the shower head a removable wand on a hose? The reason we ask is that, after booking the Voyage of the Vikings and the 2024 GWV on the Ms Zuiderdam, my wife underwent brain surgery and she has some vision & mobility issues. There are no handicapped staterooms available on our upcoming Voyage of the Vikings cruise. So we need to know if I can stand outside the shower with a removable shower head and wet down & rinse my wife. Thanks in advance for your reply and comments. Ron

  19. Need to know if the shower heads in non-suite staterooms are fixed or removable. We have some handicapped issues to deal with and being able to stand outside the shower and wet down & rinse off DW would make it easier to decide to stick with our booked cruise or cancel. No more handicapped accessible staterooms remain available. Thanks in advance for your comments & suggestions.
  20. Thank you all for replying to our question. Our HAL Personal Cruise Consultant has left HAL and we're in the process of getting a new one assigned to service our two remaining cruises, the upcoming Voyage of the Vikings and the 2024 GWV. Since we may also cancel the 2024 GWV, maybe not much use in asking our new PCC to transfer our Voyage of the Vikings Platinum insurance to the 2024 GWV. But we may ask him/her just for shucks to see if it can be done, given the price of the GWV. Wish us luck. 😉 Since we've been on 45-50 cruises and have never cancelled a single one, we almost always purchase trip cancellation insurance when we book a cruise.
  21. Boatdrill is correct. The premium is not refundable right now. The premium was refundable during a 10-day review period after purchase of the plan. A medical issue has come up and we will most certainly have to cancel our cruise. It's still several weeks before the usual cancellation fees start to take effect. So it probably makes sense to cancel right away rather than wait and use the 'cancel for any reason' provision.
  22. Just wondering if we cancel a cruise well before 90-days prior to the sail date or the date that cancellation penalties start, would the premium for Holland America's Platinum insurance be refunded?
  23. Any thoughts or comments on the use of a standard walker v.s. a rollator for walking on the promenade deck? DW has lost most of her vision due to brain surgery so walking on a deck with "motion in the ocean" going on will be a little more challenging. I'm thinking that the standard walker would be more stable than a rollator, especially when at sea. But the rollator could be very nice for strolling when docked.
