Sea Princess in Hawaii today 30 April

Recommended Posts

Last call in Hawaii before heading off to Tahiti.

Today they are in Hilo on the Island of Hawaii....where it is always raining:D

Has anyone been to Hilo when it did not rain?:

We were based in Hilo for 6 days in Jan. 2015. At least during daytime, we encountered significant rain on only one day (and then for no more than 20% of the time). Dark clouds often passed over for 2 or 3 hours, but then the sun would come out again. Perhaps we were just lucky, but our sense was that the reputation of Hilo as being very rainy is overstated. A great place, and a drastically contrasting environment to dry Kona-Kailua on the east side of the island.

You were very lucky. We have stayed at two different places on the "wet side" of Hawaii (Hilo) and one place on the "dry side" (Kona-Kailua) and both sides delivered as per their well known reputation.

However, on the "wet side", the rain was tropical squalls, which passed over, so each day had some dry periods. The bonus, of course, is that the countryside is unbelievably lush and beautiful, with colourful rainbows, spectacular orchids, gardens, streams and waterfalls. A great place indeed!

I should have proofread better before posting -- Kailua-Kona is of course on the west side of Hawai`i.
