Progreso Taxi / Cab costs vs. Autoprogreso tours to Merida and Dzibilchaltun

How much do the taxi cost for trips to Merida and dzibilchaltun ruins if we try to do it on our own. We would need a van (5 adults, 3 kids).

I saw autoprogreso website rate of $39 adults $22 kids for this tour - total $260.

Could we do the same for cheaper with more flexibility doing it on our own taking cabs?

Does Autoprogreso tours do any bargaining on pricing?

I would say probably not. The taxi may have air conditioning, AutoProgreso's vehicles always do. The driver may speak some English or not. AutoProgreso's personnel is bilingual. The taxi might get you back in time. AutoProgreso is guaranteed as they are the official shuttle service providers for Carnival.

Entry alone at Dzibilchaltun is about 13-14 dollars per person (adult).

Not even close.

We ended up taking a van to Chichen Itza - $140 for the van roundtrip (it could seat up to 16 I think) $19 pp for the entrance fee. We were able to get a guide for $25 while there. Autoprogreso cost would have come out to be about the same.

Overall I would not recommend doing Chichen Itza due to time constraints. We were SO rushed getting there and back. Basically stopped at a fruit stand to get something for lunch for the road. I really wanted to swim in a cenote. While we saw several on the way and stopped at one for a brief view, just didn't have the time to do anything.

We always use Autoprogreso. In Cozumel a taxi is a good option but I would have some reservations about taking a tour with a taxi in Progreso.
