rl2knot1 Posted September 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2014 I would love to bring home some wine from St. Maarten. Where is the best place to buy it from? Also.. Will the cruise ship hold it until we get back? Sent from my iPad using Forums
gtaylor Posted September 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Which sort of wine might you be interested in? Certainly St. Maarten doesn't produce any wine of its own. If you're thinking of wines from France, related to the northern half of the island being French, then they are available all across the island, but if you are interested in 'upper' levels of wine, then we can narrow your choices down to just several favored shopping points. Yes, the ship will hold it until you get off unless they just happen to not see it as you re-board from the port. gary
SeaBands Posted September 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2014 on the French side but the one in Marigot has closed but there is one between Marigot and Philipsburg on central highway. You will need to take a cab. There may be a limited selection in P'burg liquor stores.
rl2knot1 Posted October 2, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted October 2, 2014 Yes my thought was because of the northern part of the island being French:) I enjoy any good Merlot Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc. gtaylor Posted October 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2014 I would actually recommend a wine shop on the Dutch side, Select Wine Cellar if you are looking for some very fine wines. If you want to step down a notch, but still stay with the French offerings, I would recommend the Grand Marche, just outside of Philipsburg. Either would probably require a taxi, but you COULD get to the Grand Marche by bus for $1. I doubt that either of these would deliver to the ship. Some of the jewelry/liquor shops along Frontstreet have French wine for sale, but I would question the turnover of anything available there. gary
