mmt4321 Posted March 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Are there any car rental companies that rent from the port of Miami? Do you know if we would have to take a taxi or do the car rental companies have shuttles? Thanks in advance
Muskoka2 Posted March 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2011 no cars to rent at the port...we had to go to the airport. There was no shuttle. A taxi costs around $25.00. The building is actually a distance from the airport. The signage for roads and hwys is scarce at best and it can get both complicated and confusing to get on the right road even with directions. You definately need a directional tool.Expect fast turns onto the roads with several different hwy signs...hard to explain..one of those things you have to go west to go south. Toll booths no longer accept cash and the rental cars have a sun pass so you zip along and that was good. I must add it was stressful if you have no idea where you are. We were surprised you are allowed to make u turns on busy multi laned roads. Also expect heavy traffic. It can be difficult but at least you will be more prepared than we were. J&R-Chicago Posted March 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Car rental is easy at the Miami Airport. The car rental center is right next to the terminal buildings, it's brand spanking new. Thrifty and Almo offer shuttle bus service to and from the pier to the airport. At the airport they will ask to see your paid receipt after turning in the car before taking you to the pier. If you don't have a receipt, they may or may not let you ride the shuttle to the pier. If they do, they might charge you $10 without the receipt. I'm not sure how they verify you are a customer when going from the pier to the airport when you don't have a rental contact yet. Be aware though, the shuttle buses at the pier to the airport fill up fast. And several could pass you by. Several rental companies have locations downtown. Might be easier to take a cab to one of those locations.
JohninDC Posted March 9, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Both Hertz and Avis have downtown Miami locations - a $10 cab ride if they will not shuttle you. There are more rental agencies located in South Beach, about a $15 cab ride from POM. Good luck! :)
PaulnKarl Posted March 10, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2011 Hertz will shuttle you from their downtown (SE 1st Street) location to and from the ship. We used it last year and found it to be pretty efficient.
