redlef Posted June 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2006 Can anyone tell me the boarding procedures for British Airways at JFK? Do they allow "people requiring special assistance" to get on first like most of the American airlines do? Will a 747 board from the center doors (over the wings or behind the wings) or the front only? Thanks in advance.

Globaliser Posted June 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Will a 747 board from the center doors (over the wings or behind the wings) or the front only?It will be the front doors only. It may be the very front doors, or the next set of doors (just ahead of the wing), or both. It's very rare for 747s to be boarded using the doors behind the wings, and the overwing exits are emergency exits only. If you need special assistance with boarding, it may be worth asking the staff at the gate what time the expect to start this. That way, they will also be able to see that you genuinely need assistance and that you're not trying to cheat your way onto the aircraft early (as too many people do) - so they are more likely to be of real assistance to you. Rudi610 Posted July 2, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2006 I flew on a United 747 once. They boarded first and business class passengers through the door in the front of the plane while coach passengers boarded through the door just forward of the wing. This was at Heathrow airport in London and the gate had 2 jetways. On the flight from Washington, there was only one jetway and they boarded the flight through the door just forward of the wing.
