Celebration Platinum Refurb - Latest Update

Recommended Posts

Hi folks - We just got back from the Celebration yesterday - had a great time. We'd been on her twice before so we could see what had and had not changed.

I will give a brief refurb update here but if you have any questions (drinks too!) let me know.

Hemmingways looked the most different for me. All new furniture and carpets and a nice bookshelf type thing at the left hand end (near the casino) which looked nice but wasn't practical (it wasn't an extension of the library :)). Meridian has new carpets and furniture but ceiling and lighting were the same. Same with the Broadway Show Lounge. Horizons didn't looked like it had been touched but I liked it the way it was so no worries there. The Lido restaurant also has new carpets and furniture. The Terrace Grill behind the lido near the pool has also been refitted and has new chairs and tables and some low soft seating. The sunbeds in this area still looked like the old blue canvas ones. I don't think any major cabin refurb was going on whilst we were onboard. The ship was pretty full I think as it is half term. As we left on Thursday though they were already sectioning off corridors and ripping soft furnishings out of cabins so they are cracking on with it. I thought maybe they were working from top to bottom on the cabins on the refurn but that was not the case. I saw cabins on 7 and 8 which had been 'done' but others which had not. Similiarly we were on deck 1  and some cabins had been completed and others not. I did have a peek inside the refurbed cabins. New carpets, curtains and bedding are the order of the day but the furniture/wardrobes seemed to be the same (our wardrobes in our cabin - non refurbed - looked in good nick). I would have really liked to have a look at the bathrooms in the platinum cabins but didn't have the nerve to step over the threshold. My husband went up to the sports deck where they are storing ripped out stuff and he said there were a few bathtubs but certainly not the amount of ripped out sanitaryware he would have expected. If anyone has any updates re the refurbed bathrooms that would be great. The gym, spa and kids club all looked the same to me (we used all three). Do bear in mind the public area work 'only' took 9 days (from what crew told me) so there is only so much they could do in that time. Please don't expect indoor ice rinks or waterslides ;)

Please let me know if you have any specific questions about the refit so far and I will try and help.

Rachael :)

Thanks for that - interesting to read of the changes.

sounds as though they have done a very similar make-over on Celebration Lido Deck to that which has been done outside of the Lido on Dream (Deck 9). Also like Celebration the wardrobes etc have been retained on Dream - just the soft furnishings having changed. I will be really interested to see the refurb on Celebratin some time - especially the en-suites!

I'm afraid curiosity would have got the better of me - I'm too nosy to exercise your restraint () - I'd have had look! As you say hopefully someone will post some pics for us in due course so we can see what's been done there too. But thanks for your up-date - and pleased to hear you had such a good time. :)

Hi ... We were in a non refurbed cabin. I poked my head into the refurbed cabins on the final day. I did not see the bathrooms or tvs, but the carpets and soft furnishings had been changed. I believe once she is fully platinum that flat screen tvs and tea making facilities will be standard in each cabin. :)

I didn't take photos as the cabins were not ours Nd I didn't want to get caught. ;-)

The cabins looked to match the depiction in the brochure and on the website regarding the platinum look.

Just back from Red Sea on celebration,we had a refurbished cabin, new carpet, flat screen wall mounted tv,bathroom tiled,&shower loads better, bit more room, got a lovely red rose for valentines left by celebration staff:):):) nice touch

Nice to see that the cabins have had a proper refurbishment done to them, as I think it was needed, the bathrooms in particular. You've not got any pictures of the bathrooms have you? Have all the bathroom tiles been re-done? Is it still a shower curtain or have the purchased some shower doors?

Some of the bathroom fitments have been ripped out and I'd like to think all of the grouting has been redone but I cannot guarantee it. No I don't have any cabin pictures as we had a non refurbed cabin and I didn't like to step into another's cabin :o

It will be so good if the tiles have been done - it was the biggest weakness on Celebration imo.

The trick to having a good look around is if you arrive early, have a peep before the more new passengers arrive (some ships leave the doors to as yet unoccupied cabins open or leave the key in the door so you know it's empty). Or better still if you are on a b-2-b on the middle day or have time before you leave on your last day go around as the cabin stewards are finishing preparing rooms. I've often asked if I could have a look as I'm researching cabins for our next visit - it's never been a problem.

I'm very inquisitive but would never go into a cabin I thought was occupied - but then again you would expect those to be locked. The pics I took of Dream a few weeks ago were cabins with doors wide open so I didn't feel I was intruding on anyone's personal space. That would be rude!

I would expect new soft furnishings, chairs and a lick of paint now and again to be part of the normal, ongoing operations of running a cruise ship. I'm disappointed, but not in the least surprised, to find Thomson dressing this up as a Platinum refurb (Celebration & Dream) and consequently charging more. Seems to me that as prices go north, some aspects are going in the opposite direction.
