LAX Hotel

We will be arriving later in the day and flying out the next morning so we don't need a place to shop or things to do. We just want a nice reasonably priced hotel hear LAX with a shuttle and breakfast. Sound like staying near the airport isn't great but that is what we need. Any hotel suggestions, please?

Nowhere in the world might there be a more generic array of big chain airport hotels than along Century Boulevard between LAX and the 405...

In my view, just pick the one with the best rate...They all have shuttles to take you to the terminals in the morning.

Don't stay East of the 405--Bad neighborhoods, not like West of the 405 in that area is any great shakes...but at least it's all airport related services/commercial/industrial...Lots of rental car lots, long term parking, warehousing, office buildings...and lots of generic chain hotels...No real commercial, no restaurants other than the one in each hotel...But, if you have an early morning flight and little or no time to waste other than sleeping, go ahead, take your pick...

I had a reservation for the La Quinta at LAX. Included breakfast and shuttle. I Decided to book another hotel on Priceline and get a hotel near the port so I canceled this one. Try code "LEASE10". Gives a good discount. Good for customers of Aarons. For the dates I was going to stay (Jan 16-17,2015) the rate is currently $71.20 night + $11.04 tax= $82.24 total.

I think we would have been happy enough here.

Thanks for the information. I booked this and another hotel so will make the final decision closer to our travel date - La Quinta looks like it would be just fine for one night and a good price!

We've stayed at the Hilton LAX before and we are staying again. We loved it. Rate for AAA can be as low as $120/night but you are on your own for breakfast. Free shuttle to the airport and back, Denny's and Carl's Jr next door, Starbucks (a baby, makeshift Starbucks) in the lobby, full breakfast (buffet and order) at the restaurant in the lobby area (we ate here - it was expensive), very large & very busy hotel. My husband is a smoker and they have a smoker's floor where all the rooms open-up in a big square to a giant, outdoor smoking pavillion with picnic-like seating and you can look-up and watch the planes fly over - this is on the 3rd floor, I believe. On this same floor they have this giant vending machine area of all kinds of foods if you are into that sort of quick & cheap meal. We ordered pizza from a place the concierge recommended and it was delivered to our room pronto. We are staying there again (twice) in December. One night we got a great AAA rate ($120) and the other night there was seemingly nothing available so it's $172. It's a hit or miss...

Thanks for the information, CupKayke,

I see your next 'cruise' is the Yangtze River cruise - that is where we are going too. Need to fly out of LAX to Shanghai so that's why I wanted the information. Really looking forward to this trip in May. What company are you traveling with?

We just did the China trip in June/July. We did it with Viking River Cruises. 12 day basic "Imperial Jewels" itinerary plus the four night Hong Kong & Guilin extension plus the "forced overnight" in Beijing to make it 17 nights in China overall...

It was a very nice trip. The hotels were all first class 5 star hotels. Tours were well organized. "Tour Escort" was outstanding. By the time we were done, we really felt like we'd seen quite a bit of China. All meals were taken care of except the first two dinners in Beijing and the last three in Hong Kong. River ship was very nice--all cabins had balconies...though we rarely ever used ours. Free WiFi on ship and in hotels...

Have fun...

Hi Steve,

We are going the first 2 weeks in June - how was the weather? We got a great deal with Gate 1 for 14 days. Wanted to go to Hong Kong too but it was quite a bit more money for not that long of a time so we passed - will have to go there some other time!

We are flying China Eastern airlines. How long is the flight to China? I realize we lose lots of hours too since we are flying out of LAX at 12:30 and get to Shanghai at 5:30 the next day.

Thanks for the information!

Flight was about 13 hours...

We got very lucky on weather...It rained on us a couple of days, but nothing too bad...and temperatures were fairly moderate...often, it can get fairly hot and muggy in the summer...but July/August is supposed to be the worst...

I wore cargo shorts and golf shirts or t-shirts the whole time and was very comfortable...

Our deal from Viking wasn't that bad at all...$2795 per person for the basic trip--covering the first 13 nights...plus $1049 pp for round trip airfare...The Hong Kong Guilin extension was another $1899 per person...it sounds pricey...but we figured we're not going back that often so we didn't want to miss Hong Kong. Of the five bus loads that were on our trip, they only filled one bus for the Hong Kong extension...

But we were glad we did it...broken down, it's not that outrageous...it included the flight from Shanghai to Guilin and the flight from Guilin to Hong Kong...one night hotel in Guilin and three in Hong Kong (and five star hotels in Hong Kong are very expensive) and a boat tour down the scenic Li River in Guilin and an extensive tour of Hong Kong...

Viking's hotels were outstanding...we were in the Ritz Carlton in Beijing, Hotels we stayed at --Ritz Carlton Beijing, Hilton Xi'an, Shangri La Shanghai, Shangri La Guilin, Shangri La Kowloon Hong Kong--were all really nice...The internal flights in China--from Beijing to Xi'an, Xi'an to Chongqin, Wuhan to Shanghai, Shanghai to Guilin and Guilin to Hong Kong--were all fairly nice on clean modern aircraft (I had been expecting the worst). We also chose Viking because they are the only company with an entire ship for themselves.

We were very impressed with Viking...

Steve-

You did get to see a lot! China had never been on my bucket list before but several people on another tour we took said we shouldn't miss it and go before it was a total ecological disaster there and now that I have done research on it we can't wait to go.

We are both going for 14 days for $5200 including airfare and optional tours! We got a great deal with Gate 1 doing early booking and a special deal so couldn't resist so went with the basic package deal and we are getting to do and see a lot. I have spent more that for a 7 day cruise so we were a little leery about it but I have been in touch with others who took this tour and it is the real deal.

Guess the 13 hour flight will be worth it!

Thanks again for the information!
