Cinderellie Posted April 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Hello, cruisers. Has anyone taken a cruise the last week in August in the Western Caribbean? Ports are Yucatan, Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman or the Keys. Any bad weather? kitty9 Posted April 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Mid August through mid-October is the busiest time in hurricane season, and it doesn't make a difference if you're in the Eastern or Western Caribbean. The only place that seems not to have many hurricanes is the far Southern Caribbean. But there's no way of telling what will happen at any given time, but it's been reported that it could very well be a busy hurricane season this year. rncruiser Posted April 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2004 We went that week this past summer. For the most part the weather was fine. A brief downpour in Grand Cayman, and a longer one in Cozumel, although the weather at the ruins at Tulum was fine at the same time. The only really bad weather was on the last day on our return to Miami. We had heavy rains and wind all morning. By afternoon the sun was shining and we were enjoying our final hours by the pool. Of course this doesn't mean that this is the weather you will have. It is hurricane season and it can be rainy, windy, and rocky all week long or the sun can shine all week. That is why it is a less expensive time to go. We took our chances because it was the only week good for us but we went knowing that the weather could be rotten. trcori Posted April 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2004 We took our first cruise in late September '02 ... the itinerary was planned as Western Caribbean ... suddenly two hurricanes popped up ahead of our route, so the captain switched to an Eastern Caribbean itinerary and we had great weather. Just be ready for anything. We had booked some shore tours on our own and once they announced the switch on day 2, we had to spend some $ on the onboard Internet to e-mail our tour providers and let 'em know we weren't coming! Plus we found ourselves knowing NOTHING about the ports we were headed for -- though we had a great time anyway, just looked for the nearest beach! trc Millennium 12/12/04 **** just back from Mercury 4/4/04 Infinity 8/03, Century 3/03 & 9/
